At ninety-seven, Grace Campbell, a Scottish immigrant rancher's
wife, has drawn strength from magic over the years; she has the
gift of second sight. But now, she's been stolen away from the home
she loves by her controlling son, Douglas. Even she can't see what
her future holds, so she calls in the cavalry for help. Afraid and
alone, Grace must now rely on her free-spirited granddaughter
Georgiana to bring her back home to die.
But Georgiana has a few demons of her own to fight before she
can help Grace.
At forty-seven, Georgiana has just managed to extricate herself
from a disastrously abusive relationship-but the price she paid for
her own freedom was custody of the little stepdaughter she adores.
She now questions whether life holds any meaning for her anymore,
and she turns to her lost skills for comfort. She hopes that in the
rediscovery of her love of pottery, she will learn to love herself
again. As the restoration of her pottery studio nears completion,
still wrestling with her own grief, she gets the call from her
grandmother.
On the trip home, they are dogged by Douglas, who has obtained
a court order to take his mother back to California. As they fight
for Grace's freedom and dignity, the two women learn things about
themselves and each other. They are on a journey that will change
both of their lives forever-one that will test their stamina, their
determination, and their ability to believe.
This new edition focuses on bias in health care and provides a
variety of case examples related to the timely topics of
unconscious bias and microaggressions encountered by patients,
students, attending and resident physicians, nurses, staff, and
advanced practice providers in various healthcare settings. The
proliferation of literature on unconscious bias and
microaggressions has raised public awareness around these concerns.
This case compendium discusses strategies and addresses
professional responses to bias in health care and extends beyond
the individual patient and healthcare provider into the communities
where biased assumptions and attitudes exist. Recognizing that
ethnic minorities, the elderly, the poor, and persons with Medicaid
coverage utilize the emergency department at higher rates than the
general population, this compendium also builds upon the case
studies from the first edition to cover a broader array of
underserved minority groups. Diversity and Inclusion in Quality
Patient Care: Your Story/Our Story - A Case-Based Compendium, 2nd
Edition is an essential resource for attending and resident
physicians, nurses, staff, advanced practice providers, and
students in emergency medicine, primary care, and public health.

Volume 1 of this three-part series introduces the fundamental
concepts of quantum field theory using the formalism of canonical
quantization. This volume is intended for use as a text for an
introductory quantum field theory course that can include both
particle and condensed matter physics students. Dr. Strickland
starts with a brief review of classical field theory and uses this
as a jumping off point for the quantization of classical field,
thereby promoting them to proper quantum fields. He then presents
the formalism for real and complex scalar field theories, fermion
field quantization, gauge field quantization, toy models of the
nuclear interaction, and finally the full Lagrangian for QED and
its renormalization. Part of IOP Series in Nuclear Medicine.
Volume 2 of this three-part series presents the quantization of
classical field theory using the path integral formalism. For this
volume the target audience is students who wish to learn about
relativistic quantum field theory applied to particle physics,
however, it is still very accessible and useful for students of
condensed matter. This volume begins with the introduction of the
path integral formalism for non-relativistic quantum mechanics and
then, using this as a basis, extends the formalism to quantum
fields with an infinite number of degrees of freedom. Dr.
Strickland then discusses how to quantize gauge fields using the
Fadeev-Popov method and fermionic fields using Grassman algebra. He
then presents the path integral formulation of quantum
chromodynamics and its renormalization. Finally, he discusses the
role played by topological solutions in non-abelian gauge theories.
Volume 3 of this three-part series presents more advanced topics
and applications of relativistic quantum field theory. The
application of quantum chromodynamics to high-energy particle
scattering is discussed with concrete examples for how to compute
QCD scattering cross sections. Experimental evidence for the
existence of quarks and gluons is then presented both within the
context of the naive quark model and beyond. Dr Strickland then
reviews our current understanding of the weak interaction, the
unified electroweak theory, and the Brout-Higgs-Englert mechanism
for the generation of gauge boson masses. The last two chapters
contain a self-contained introduction to finite temperature quantum
field theory with concrete examples focusing on the
high-temperature thermodynamics of scalar field theories, QED, and
QCD.

The Red Cotton Fields is story written in the tradition of great
historical epics. The story begins on a Georgia plantation in the
year 1850, ending on the gold fields of Australia in the year 1884.
This is a story surrounding three southern families (the plantation
owners, the plantation overseer's family and a Negro slave family)
leading up to and including the Civil War. The reader will
experience the demise of a southern plantation and follow two of
plantation's previous occupants (Bart Royal, the white overseer's
son, and Reiner Washington, an escaped slave) as they rise to
become two of the richest men in the world. Also, The Red Cotton
Fields is a classic love story between the plantation's owner's
daughter, Holly Ballaster, and the overseer's son, Bart Royal, The
Red Cotton Fields is destined to become a classic. Read it and you
will understand why.
A story of intrigue and disbelief that something like this could
happen so close to our coast line and how horrific it might have
been if all the pieces hadn't fallen into place as they did. Truely
a page turner if there ever was one. You will never forget the
name, Crippled Pelican after reading this story.
