This volume is the most recent installment of the Progress in Motor Control series. It contains contributions based on presentations by invited speakers at the Progress in Motor Control VIII meeting held in Cincinnati, OH, USA in July, 2011. Progress in Motor Control is the official scientific meeting of the International Society of Motor Control (ISMC). The Progress in Motor Control VIII meeting, and consequently this volume, provide a broad perspective on the latest research on motor control in humans and other species.

The edited book series Studies in Perception and Action contains a collection of research presented at the International Conference on Perception and Action (ICPA). The Studies series has appeared in conjunction with the biennial ICPA since 1991. ICPA provides a forum for presenting new data, theory, and methodological developments relevant to the ecological approach to perceptionaction. This volume is the 9th in the Studies in Perception and Action series, and it contains research presented at the 14th ICPA meeting in the summer of 2007. The sixty papers presented in this volume represent the latest developments in ecological psychology research from four continents. In many instances, the contributions to Studies volumes reflect the first appearance of new ideas in a scientific venue. As a result, the Studies volumes contain the most recent and cutting edge research in perception and action. General John Fulton Reynolds, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was the consummate tragic figure of war - the dashing young general on his horse, leading his men into the fray - men with whom he shared a mutual respect only felt when engaging in a higher purpose. His final act on the Gettysburg stage was to choose the right ground to defend and to place his men into position - decisions that ultimately led to the union victory and his own fate. In addition, Lawrence has added his own "Relations of John Fulton Reynolds" - over 200 pages of Reynolds, Lefevre, Ferree, Landis & Moore family history. In total, the life of John Reynolds is shown from numerous perspectives and dimensions, from his own accomplishments to lists of his extended family and extensive relations. This book is 312 pages, indexed, with numerous vintage photographs.

Since 1991, the edited book series Studies in Perception and Action has appeared in conjunction with the biennial International Conference of Perception and Action (ICPA), a conference that provides an opportunity for individuals who share interests in ecological psychology to come together to present current research, exchange ideas, and engage in conversation on theoretical and methodological concerns. The Studies in Perception and Action series is a way to preserve the dialogues between conference attendees and researchers displaying their latest work. This volume, the eighth in the series, presents the conversations held at the 13th ICPA meeting in the summer of 2005.
