EMMELINE fought a tough battle to win the vote for British women and inspired others around the world to do the same - find out why she hated school, how she had to take lessons in stone throwing, what she thought when her daughter spat at a policeman and an awful lot more besides. Get to know Emmeline on first name terms! Before every great person made their wonderful achievements, they were just like you and me. First Names is a series of fun, lively and highly illustrated biographies that introduces some truly amazing individuals who lived incredible lives, to an audience of young readers.

firstsite's autumn season began with a new solo exhibition by the British artist Anthea Hamilton.Hamilton's energetic collages explored the surreal and seductive nature of images. Her sculptures, installations and videos made reference to the history of art, cinema and performance, playfully inserting the viewer into a three-dimensional composition.Sorry I'm Late sees work was installed across the building with firstsite's galleries dramatically transformed into a series of environments - from a film studio to a restaurant kitchen. Soft sculptures, Perspex figures mounted on wheels, a giant zoetrope-inspired portrait of John Travolta and a medieval cocktail that is claimed to cure cataracts are amongst the works that comprise the exhibition.

The purpose of this book is to provide data needed to predict the interference potential of various UWB signals. The results will be useful for regulatory agencies that are currently charged with defining UWB emission limits and corresponding compliance measurement procedures. They will also be useful to the ultrawideband communications industry, which will only thrive if compliance measurement procedures fairly evaluate interference potential of all UWB signals. The approach is to inject carefully characterised interference into an operating narrow-band receiver and measure susceptibility of the receiver with precisely defined signal quality metrics. Data is then analysed to determine if there are common signal characteristics that predict interference potential. The victim receiver chosen for this interference susceptibility test is C-band satellite digital television (DTV). This receiver demodulates signals transmitted in the 3.7 to 4.2 GHz frequency range, which lies within the band allocated for UWB devices. The authors chose to generate the satellite signal in the laboratory rather than use an unpredictable live signal, to generate interference signals with a vector signal generator rather than rely solely on prototype devices, and to perform signal and system characterisation measurements primarily with the vector signal analyser to provide comprehensive data capable of being post-processed in many ways.

Learn to mobilize latent energy in your body and direct it to energize and awaken your higher brain * Provides a simplified step-by-step guided process to the higher-brain activation techniques of Source Code Meditation * Explains how to shift energy out of the lower "survive" brain into the higher "thrive" brain to bring confidence, clarity, and empowerment for transformative change in all areas of life * Reveals how the "brain first" techniques of SCM tune the brain to receive meditation, enabling access to deep flow states, transcendent states of consciousness, and higher brain potential The human brain is like a flowing river of potential. Until now, that river has been blocked, barricaded, and diverted by the primitive lower brain. The lower brain hijacks our ability to experience deeper flow and higher transcendent states of consciousness. It also guards against the full expression of the passionate human heart. Source Code Meditation (SCM), with its nine summits of transformation, effortlessly re-routes that lower brain diversion, allowing you to activate latent energy in your body, awaken your higher brain, enlighten your mind, and set your heart on fire to create a new world. With traditional meditation techniques, it often takes decades of practice for hours each day to confer significant changes in the mind and the higher brain. Few of us make it to these rarified states of mind, due to the amount of time and the intensity of focus needed. With "brain first" SCM techniques, you mobilize latent energy in the body and direct it to energize and awaken the higher brain before meditation begins. With the higher brain prepped and tuned, meditation is efficiently received, leading to quantum breakthroughs in higher consciousness without years of practice as well as access to deep flow states, transcendent states of consciousness, and higher brain potential. Providing a simplified step-by-step guided process to SCM, Dr. Michael Cotton explains how to shift energy out of the lower "survive" brain into the higher "thrive" brain to bring confidence, clarity, and empowerment for transformative change in all areas of life. Distilled from the world's most comprehensive philosophy, Integral Metatheory, SCM offers not only a way to create the brain state necessary to change the mind, but the crystal clarity needed to use these advanced meditative states to actualize your potential and live your destiny to the fullest.

A Geometricised World In 1980 Peter Halley painted his first “prisons,” re-deploying the language of geometric abstraction in response to physical and bureaucratic environments. Radically deconstructing the language of abstraction, he re-imagined it not as a utopian source of liberation, but as a dystopian symbol of the regulation of physical and social space. As he wrote in 1990: “I wanted to draw attention to this geometricised, rationalised, quantified world. I saw it as a world characterised by efficiency, by regimentation of movement, bureaucracies, whether in the corporation, government, or university.” Working in the era of the mass adoption of personal computers and the advent of the Internet, he developed a tightly organized system of discrete, geometric forms that he refers to as “prisons,” “conduits,” and “cells.” Adopting non-traditional materials such as Roll- A-Tex, a paint additive that provides a readymade texture, and Day-Glo fluorescent colors, he referenced a pervasive mechanization of the human touch and technology in the postmodern environment. Set within the context of a prolific period of painting and critical writing in the 1980s, this catalogue traces the development of Halley’s singular pictorial vocabulary.
