'A beautiful book so filled with sharp longing and perfectly phrased vulnerability that I read it in a reverent hush' Torrey Peters, author of Detransition, Baby 'Exceptional . . . has flashes of Sally Rooney's CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS, or Halle Butler's THE NEW ME. Sometimes it's erotic, sometimes it's devastating' New York Times Mallory sees the woman for the first time at her college gym and is immediately transfixed. As a naturally reserved person who is now reeling from the loss of her mother, Mallory finds herself compelled by the woman's assurance, and longs to know her better. Despite the discovery that she is a professor at the college, Mallory finds herself falling into a complicated love affair with the woman, the stakes of which she never quite understands. In the years that follow, Mallory must come to terms with how the relationship shaped her, for better or worse, and learn to become a part of the world that she sacrificed for the sake of a woman she never truly knew. In this enthralling debut novel, the complexities of influence, obsession, and admiration reveal how desire and its consequences can alter the trajectory of a life. 'A gorgeous storyteller, Hart is gifted with a poet's precision, blending image and idea. Sensual and wise, this novel channels the melancholic exhilaration of dangerous love' - Tayari Jones, author of An American Marriage 'Guaranteed to wow' Oprah Daily
Secession? Peaceful secession? Why would patriotic American want to do that? How, in any case, is it possible? Michael Hart lays out the answers in clear expository prose, pinned to reality at every point by historical precedent and scientific fact. The heart of his argument is a separation of the U.S.A., at county, not state, level into a rump "blue" nation purusing current federal policies and a new "red" American Federal Republic (A/F.R.)--'a constitutional republic, with civil liberties fully protected.' The A.F.R. will begin with a new Declaration--Dr. Hart provides a full text--followed by a new Constitution containing clauses to prevent the evils that today threaten our liberties.
Historically, social work and psychology professions have pressured and coerced Aboriginal peoples to follow the euro-centric ways of society. The needs of Aboriginal peoples have not been successfully addressed by helping professioan due to a limited attempt to incorporate Aboriginal perspectives and practices of helping. Michael Hart briefly discusses colonization from an Aboriginal perspective, ontological imperialism, social work's role in colonial oppression, and the dynamic of resistance. Seeking Mino-Pimatisiwin encourages Aboriginal concepts, values and perspectives to be effectively incorporated by helpers trained in counselling, supporting, and teaching disciplines. Micheal Hart uses his own personal and professional experiences and that of other Aboriginal helpers. Throughout the book he outlines ways of adopting an Aboriginal Approach to helping. The closing chapter examines one such approach, the sharing circle, and how it can be used to guide practice with individuals, families, and groups in several contexts.
Unlike conventional bilateral negotiations, multilateral negotiations are characterized by intensive international discussions that involve multiple actors and interests, highly complex agendas, and differentiated international settings. Political scientist Fen Osler Hampson, with the assistance of trade specialist Michael Hart, studies the component parts of the multilateral negotiation process to identify those factors making for success or failure. The authors argue that multilateral negotiation is, in essence, a coalition-building enterprise involving states, nonstate actors, and international organizations. Individual case studies include discussions on security, the environment, economic issues, and non-governmental actors--such as scientists and environmental groups like Greenpeace International--in prenegotiation and negotiation phases.

GAINING MOMENTUM GAVIN HAYES IS EVERYTHING DERRICK COULD ASK FOR IN A LOVER. Gorgeous. Passionate. Great in bed. Derrick finds it very easy to just let himself go, to let Gavin guide him and teach him all the things he missed during a decade of celibacy. In the course of a single weekend, Derrick's routine is transformed, his mornings and evenings filled with sex. Sweet, seductive, wild or raunchy, Gavin offers to him all the pleasure he's denied himself for so long. But learning how to be a lover in bed is one thing. Learning to be one out of bed is another. For Derrick, being alone has become habit. Sharing his confidences doesn't come nearly as readily as sharing his bed. After so many losses, the last thing Derrick wants is to become dependent upon another person who might not always be there. And Gavin always being there is far from certain. With an ex-lover lurking in the background, and the question of Gavin's future health still outstanding, neither Gavin nor Derrick feel capable of asking for anything more than right now. But neither will Gavin be kept on the fringes of Derrick's life. Can Derrick let someone in, before the opportunity passes him by?
This book contains Michele Harte's beautiful poetry. Enjoy.
A college coed has been missing all winter and her remains have been discovered in the Siskiyous Mountains of Northern California. The case has gone cold and Mickey Dunn, new to private investigation after his success in Rendezvous With A Habit, in which he nearly single-handedly breaks up the largest crystal meth ring in Central California, takes the case. The victim had a history of promiscuity, especially with older men, for whom she had voracious appetite for receiving oral sex. There are plenty of suspects with motive and opportunity, and in true-whodonit fashion, the reader doesn't discover the killer until the clever twist ending. In solving the murder, Mick has to fight the obstacles of the local Indian tribe, small town provinciality, the drug community, church hypocrisy, and his own demons. As in Rendezvous With A Habit, the reader should be prepared for a lot of sex as the intimate background of the victim and the continuing graphic relationship of Mick and his girlfriend, Marlene, are tastefully yet graphically illustrated.
This book describes the author's personal journey. Over the course of the year prior to writing this book, he discovered what being in love truly means - but questions why he had to do so after losing his wife, Lorna, the love of his life. Lorna took him on at his worst, brought out the best in him, and saved him from the pain of his traumatic childhood. And yet, just when they had discovered each other's true purpose, she was taken away by a tiny mole on her leg. The discoveries the author made have occurred quickly, overwhelming him at times and consuming him with grief and despair - as happens to most of us when we lose the one we love. Turning to the church for help only complicated things for the author. "Is there no help for me now in this world, or in the next where is she now?" he wondered time and time again. Having learnt so much about himself and realising that he was wrong in so many ways is bittersweet, as he cannot tell her or hear her response. True love, indeed, only comes once. Although this book reflects many complex, disturbing, and truly embarrassing moments, the author nonetheless remains undaunted in providing a tribute to his one-and-only love. Most of all, he wishes to make sure Lorna did not die in vain.
REACHING OPTIMUM SPEED For Detroit handyman Derrick Chance and his lover, Gavin Hayes, the holiday season is filled with the promise of new beginnings. Gavin's officially moving in, and after the New Year, they'll begin house hunting. But they both know all the talk of gift exchange, whose holiday ornaments go where, and what repairs and remodels will be needed to put Derrick's house on the market is only a smoke screen. Before the month is over, Gavin will have the final verdict on whether or not his dangerously delusional ex, Lukas, infected him with HIV. No matter how good Gavin's chances appear with the three-month hurdle already passed, neither he nor Derrick knows what the future holds for them. The holidays have always been a time of loss and mourning for Derrick, but now he has to stay strong as Gavin's own fears and doubts assail him relentlessly. And when Lukas returns, unexpectedly penitent amid troubling revelations, Gavin has to ask himself whether he can offer Derrick the future he deserves, or whether these first few months of happiness are the best they will ever get.
After a car accident lands them in the field of a wind farm, 6 strangers split up to look for help. More than willing to assist, what the Helper is offering is not the type of help they are looking for. A chilling and surreal novel by first time author, Michelle Hartz.
