La armonia, la paz y la felicidad, solo se logran por una gracia
especial que resulta de buenos propositos, de los buenos proyectos,
del trabajo; y de acciones honestas, y humildes que tengan un toque
de misericordia, de razon y de justicia.
This book considers how an entrepreneurial university can improve
the social and economic development of countries which are
technologically underdeveloped, exploring university models in two
moderately innovative countries: Spain and Croatia.
This book presents the core concepts of geographical education as a
means of understanding global issues from a spatial perspective. It
treats education, supported by high standards, approaches,
methodologies, and resources, as essential in exploring the
interactions of the world's human and environmental systems at
local, regional, and global scales embedded in the nature of the
discipline of geography. It covers topics such as climate change,
sustainable development goals, geopolitics in an uncertain world,
global crisis, and population flows, which are of great interest to
geography researchers and social sciences educators who want to
explore the complexity of contemporary societies. Highly respected
scholars in geography education answer questions on key topics and
explain how global understanding is considered in K-12 education in
significant countries around the globe. The book discusses factors
such as the Internet, social media, virtual globes and other
technological developments that provide insights into and
visualization - in real time - of the intensity of relationships
between different countries and regions of the earth. It also
examines how this does not always lead to empathy with other
political, cultural, social and religious values: terrorism threats
and armed conflicts are also essential features of the global
world. This book opens the dialogue for global understanding as a
great opportunity for teachers, educators, scholars and policy
makers to better equip students and future citizens to deal with
global issues.
Today more than one million emigres make up the Cuban diaspora, and
many, though living in America, still consider themselves part of
Cuba. This book captures the struggles and dreams of Cuban
Americans. Using this resource, students, teachers, and interested
readers can examine the engaging and often controversial details of
Cuban immigration. Such details include patterns of immigration,
adaptation to American life and work, cultural traditions,
religious traditions, women's roles, the family, adolescence,
language, and education. Because the author is himself a Cuban
American, he does not treat the emigres as mere subjects nor does
he tell their story in statistical terms alone. As an "insider," he
delves deeply into the soul of the community to illustrate all the
dimensions of the Cuban American experience. Gonzalez-Pando's
unique vantage point yields not just a detailed account of major
events that have influenced the development of the Cuban exile
community in the United States, but also a knowledgeable
interpretation of the impact of those events. He focuses on the
community's self-identification as "exiles," showing how these
reluctant emigres have found the strength to succeed in America
without surrendering their sense of national and cultural identity.
A timeline of Cuban American history, biographical sketches of 20
noted Cuban Americans, a bibliography, and photos complete the
text. Like its subjects, this book is thought-provoking and
inspiring.
This is the first monograph from a scientific perspective dealing
with the String Quartets composed in Spain from the eighteenth
century up to the present. It is the outcome of the research and
thorough study of specific works, undertaken by twenty-one
musicologists, archivers and performers, together with four Spanish
composers. It aims both to offer an overview of the current state
of research on the primary and secondary sources available, and to
trace the history of the genre by examining its genesis,
development and reception in the European context. All this fosters
an understanding of: (1) the position of the genre in Spain from
its emergence until nowadays, (2) its aesthetics and main
compositional features in each period, (3) its idiosyncratic
peculiarities, and (4) the particular challenges that it has posed
along its history. In addition, other goals are: to banish some
prejudices about Spanish chamber music, to contribute to the
recuperation of a significant part of the Spanish musical heritage,
and to provide scholars and performers with the musical sources,
aiming at facilitating the knowledge and diffusion of a corpus of
noteworthy yet barely known works.
Sekundarquellen.

One of the charms of mathematics is the contrast between its
generality and its applicability to concrete, even everyday,
problems. Branching processes are typical in this. Their niche of
mathematics is the abstract pattern of reproduction, sets of
individuals changing size and composition through their members
reproducing; in other words, what Plato might have called the pure
idea behind demography, population biology, cell kinetics,
molecular replication, or nuclear ?ssion, had he known these
scienti?c ?elds. Even in the performance of algorithms for sorting
and classi?cation there is an inkling of the same pattern. In
special cases, general properties of the abstract ideal then
interact with the physical or biological or whatever properties at
hand. But the population, or bran- ing, pattern is strong; it tends
to dominate, and here lies the reason for the extreme usefulness of
branching processes in diverse applications. Branching is a clean
and beautiful mathematical pattern, with an intellectually
challenging intrinsic structure, and it pervades the phenomena it
underlies.
Indigenous Struggles for Autonomy: The Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua
offers a broad and comprehensive analysis of Nicaragua's Caribbean
Coast and the process of autonomy that was initiated in 1987 as
part of a wider conflict resolution process during the years of the
Sandinista revolution and has continued through to the present day.
Over its 30 year period of development, the autonomy process on
Nicaragua's Caribbean Coast can be seen as a crucible for the
autonomous struggles of minority peoples throughout the Latin
American continent. Autonomy on Nicaragua's Caribbean Coast remains
highly contested, being simultaneously characterized by progress,
setbacks, and violent confrontation within a number of fields and
involving a multiplicity of local, national, and global actors.
This experience offers critical lessons for efforts around the
world that seek to resolve long-established and deep-seated ethnic
conflict by attempting to reconcile the need for development,
usually fostered by national governments through neo-extractivist
policies, with the protection of minority rights advocated by
marginalized minorities living within nation states and,
increasingly, by intergovernmental organizations such as the United
Nations and the Organization of American States. This book presents
analyses that reveal the broad implications for the struggle for
autonomy on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, conducted by scholars
with expertise in an array of disciplines including sociology,
globalization theory, anthropology, history, socio-linguistics,
cultural and postcolonial studies, gender studies, and political
science.

This volume gathers papers originally presented at the 3rd Workshop
on Branching Processes and their Applications (WBPA15), which was
held from 7 to 10 April 2015 in Badajoz, Spain
(http://branching.unex.es/wbpa15/index.htm). The papers address a
broad range of theoretical and practical aspects of branching
process theory. Further, they amply demonstrate that the
theoretical research in this area remains vital and topical, as
well as the relevance of branching concepts in the development of
theoretical approaches to solving new problems in applied fields
such as Epidemiology, Biology, Genetics, and, of course, Population
Dynamics. The topics covered can broadly be classified into the
following areas: 1. Coalescent Branching Processes 2. Branching
Random Walks 3. Population Growth Models in Varying and Random
Environments 4. Size/Density/Resource-Dependent Branching Models 5.
Age-Dependent Branching Models 6. Special Branching Models 7.
Applications in Epidemiology 8. Applications in Biology and
Genetics Offering a valuable reference guide to contemporary
branching process theory, the book also explores many open
problems, paving the way for future research.

Visiones del exilio: Para leer a Zoe Valdes is a study on the
narrative work of Cuban writer Zoe Valdes. Valdes, who left the
island in 1995 and currently lives in Paris, has published poetry,
short stories, and novels. She also writes for Spanish and French
newspapers and is an important cultural icon of Cuban exile. A
comprehensive study beginning with a general overview of Cuba
during the 20th century, as well as a biographical summary of
Valdes, Visiones de exilio offers a classification of her
narratives, paying special attention to what she calls her
"sexagonia" (a series of six novels focused on the Cuban experience
in Cuba and abroad). Her autobiography is of extensive importance
to her work, which contributes to her exploration of different
issues in her narratives, from cubanness to gender, race and the
presence of other artistic expressions in her writing such as film,
music, and painting. This study concludes with an insightful
analysis of Valdes as an icon against Castro's regime in Cuba,
thanks to the importance of her cultural capital and public image.
