Philanthropy and Early Twentieth-Century British Literature
explores the relationship between British literature and
philanthropy at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, examining the works of E. M. Forster, Rebecca West, W.
B. Yeats, Roger Fry, Wyndham Lewis, Virginia Woolf, and Vita
Sackville-West. This book considers how writers in the modernist
period drew on the liberal welfare reforms, the adoption of
scientific methods in charity, the Cambridge tradition of public
service, the Irish nationalist movement, and the influence of the
Victorian woman philanthropist in order to advocate for an
individualist art, revolutionize their aesthetics, redefine ideals
of hospitality and beneficence, and affirm the national, social,
and economic liberation of the modern subject. Contrary to popular
interpretations presenting modernism as a break with Victorian
values, Dr. Radeva-Costello argues philanthropic engagements are at
the heart of early twentieth-century literature. The writers
discussed in this book had a sophisticated knowledge of the
philanthropy debates and of their power to transform
twentieth-century notions about how to govern, how to conceive of
national, class, and gender boundaries, and how to market the work
of the professional artist in the real world. In keeping with the
strong archival and historicizing approach of the "New Modernist
Studies" of recent years, this book also analyses the rich
contextual detail of early modernist magazines, contemporary and
archival periodicals, and government publications.

The term "illegal aliens" has been used in our country to describe
the people who live here without legal documentation and permission
to do so. While adults understand what is meant by the term,
children are often confused by it. In this story, readers will
follow along with a little boy as he discovers that there is more
than one type of alien in this world and the issues associated with
immigration are many. This is not a political book nor is it
intended to make a statement on one side of the immigration debate
or the other. It is simply a story to help children understand what
is meant by the term "illegal aliens" and about the people affected
by immigration. This book is wonderfully illustrated by the very
talented, Milena Radeva, illustrator of the "Writing is a Process"
series of books by author Terri Kelley.
Foster children all over the world live in a state of insecurity,
not knowing the comfort and satisfaction of having a forever family
to call their own. These children may, over the years as they wait,
develop some behavioral issues that make them even more unlikely
candidates for adoption. This is the story of one such child. It is
told from her point-of-view and brings the reader to understand how
she thinks and how she sees herself as she waits for her very own
forever family.
From Amazon.com best-selling author Christie Cunningham comes a
heartwarming new series about a sweet little boy, Willem and his
cuddly friend, Wontus, who just doesn't know how to behave. This
single book includes ALL THREE Willem and Wontus Stories in one: -
Willem and Wontus Visit Pirate Park (Book One) - Willem and Wontus
Go to the Beach (Book Two) - Willem and Wontus Dine In (Book Three)
Children learn about how to behave well in different,
frequently-encountered settings while still having fun. Willem and
Wontus help kids learn by experiencing less-desirable behaviors and
modeling better behaviors while making new friends, playing safely,
and following rules. Cunningham uses her background in child
psychology to blend fiction with behavior modeling so that children
learn while becoming captivated by the characters' adventures. The
series is designed to help all children, especially those who need
a little extra help with safe ways to play, and those with autism
spectrum disorder who benefit from good behavior modeling.
This, the final book in the Writing is a Process series, brings
together all of the characters and titles from the series into one
wonderful ending. As the title suggests, the characters of this
story will be presenting their books at an International Book Fair.
Readers will see that by focusing on the task of writing a story by
using a process, the final product will be something to celebrate.
As with the other books, the illustrations by Milena Radeva and the
text written by Terri Kelley work together effectively to create an
engaging and educational story for people of all ages.

The second step in most writing efforts is to create a rough draft.
This, the third book of the Writing is a Process series, presents
the idea of creating a rough draft as the reader follows along with
a girl who remembers a stormy night. The girl begins to write her
own rough draft by relying on her brainstorming list previously
created as well as her own memory and imagination. Through
wonderful illustrations and creative rhyme, this story will engage
and educate readers on why a rough draft is an important step in
the writing process. Check out the other seven books in the Writing
is a Process series by Terri Kelley.
