Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the
original. Due to its age, it may contain imperfections such as
marks, notations, marginalia and flawed pages. Because we believe
this work is culturally important, we have made it available as
part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting
the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions
that are true to the original work.
1902. The author is not a spiritualist and frankly confesses that
he is strongly inclined to hold the belief in continued personal
existence as capable proof and in the possibility of at least
occasional communication, but he holds that the scientific method
is the only method of knowledge. It is his present purpose to point
out simply and plainly certain facts, and certain conclusions based
on those facts, which he came to accept after years of patient
study, both as a member of the Society for Psychical Research and
in his own personal capacity.
1888. The author ventures to believe that, both as to method and
result, he has something to offer that is not merely an echo of
what has already been said. The following eight chapters are only
eight Sunday morning discourses, delivered in the regular order of
the author's work, to which is added an address on the intellectual
basis of faith by W.H. Savage. Contents: Origin and development of
the idea of God; does God exist: can we know God? Is God conscious,
personal and good? Why does not God reveal Himself? shall we
worship God? shall we pray to God? the glory and the shame of
atheism.
This scarce antiquarian book is a selection from Kessinger

Kessinger Publishing is the place to find hundreds of thousands of
rare and hard-to-find books with something of interest for e
1884. These discourses claim only to be essays, attempts, at
treating themes, each one of which is worthy of a volume by itself.
Believing that the humble path of the scientific method is the only
one that promises to lead anywhere, the author tried to avoid the
highway of assumption, and to keep his feet upon the solid ground
of verifiable knowledge. Contents: sonnets; what is man; origin of
man; problem of sin and salvation; is man free; motive forces of
human life; law of progress; earthly outlook; is death the end;
note to chapter VI.
