Cats. Our oldest companions. They have befriended us, consoled us
and given us many memories. No cat lover can doubt there is nothing
quite as satisfying as the loyalty of a feline friend. But
sometimes, it can go a little too far. Something that Dr Richard
Cooper, recently widowed, is about to find out. The hard way. On a
reminiscent fly fishing trip, Mr Gregory Rose is hunting the
rainbow trout. But out on the loneliness of the lake, he discovers,
to his dismay, that there is more than just fish that lurk in the
depths. Sometimes ita s our own past that we cana t help but bring
up to the surface.
Navigating Neutrality explores the unexpected role George
Washington's 1793 Neutrality Proclamation played in energizing the
U.S. government's constitutional responsibilities to support and
promote America's commercial and sovereign interests. Designed to
avoid warfare as Great Britain and France battled in the Atlantic
during the French Revolutionary Wars, neutrality encompassed a wide
range of issues, including diplomacy, law, defense, commerce, and
domestic politics. Proclaiming neutrality proved easier than
enforcing it. American citizens eagerly accepted lucrative French
privateering commissions, and Britain retaliated by attacking
American ships, cargos, and sailors. In response, Washington and
his cabinet formulated policies to enforce neutrality across all
three branches of the government and around the globe. Maritime
citizens, stranded in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, especially
came to appreciate the government's rescue efforts. As Sandra Moats
shows, enforcing neutrality galvanized all three branches of the
nascent U.S. government, serving as a manifesto of the young
nation's quest to be respected in its independence and helping to
build a U.S. government capable of supporting its global
aspirations.

With both nickel and cobalt featuring heavily in modern industry,
there is an ongoing and intense interest in ore supplies and
processing, applications development, and recycling. This book
presents a collection of authoritative papers covering the latest
advances in all aspects of nickel and cobalt processing, including
fundamentals, technology, operating practices, and related areas of
Platinum-Group Metals (PGM) processing. Special emphasis is given
to the treatment of sulphide and laterite ores, concentrates, and
secondary materials for the production of nickel and cobalt.
The author's original intent when he first started his TALES OF THE
BEARTOOTH was to write a single book about his most exciting
adventures with wildlife, cowboys and dudes during his many years
of owning and operating a guest ranch outside Yellowstone Park. He
ended up writing three books instead because he found he had so
many adventures to write about. He made an initial decision to
place stories about wildlife in one book and stories about cowboys
and dudes in two additional ones. However, he received many
complaints from readers who stated that they wanted wildlife
stories mixed in with other stories about the Beartooths. He has
resolved these complaints by consolidating THE BEST OF THE TALES OF
THE BEARTOOTH into this single volume.
John C. Mouat, author of "From Indian Fort to Flying Fort- And Far
Beyond" was born near Montana's Old Fort Custer. He piloted Flying
Fortresses in World War II, flew combat in Korea, was Secretary to
Gerneral Eisenhower and kisses Hedy Lamar.
The disastrous Yellowstone Park fires of 1988 consumed over 40% of
the Park's total area - over 400,000 acres out of a total of 2.2
million. Also, fires in adjoining National Forests incinerated
hundreds of thousands of additional acres. The author of
"YELLOWSTONE BURNING" deplores as incredibly wrongheaded the "Let
It Burn" policy of Park officials when lightning strikes ignited
forests that were tinder-dry after three years of drouth. He does
support, however, a policy of "Controlled Burns" under favorable
weather conditions to rid the forest floors of deadfall and brush
debris that pose fire hazards in all National Parks and Forests.
Read "YELLOWSTONE BURNING" for an eye-witness account of what
happened.

Desertification has re-emerged as a topic of global significance as
a consequence of the United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development. When first addressed over a generation ago, attention
was drawn to the compelling, spectacular images of sand dunes
engulfing farmlands and parched cattle dying around wells. Research
tended to focus on these events as unusual phenomena that involved
the unfortunate collision of climate and irrational' land use.
Since then, the work of many researchers has shown us that
desertification is a multifaceted problem that involves climatic,
biogeochemical, political, and socio-economic processes that
operate more or less continuously but at rates that vary in time
and space. No attempts to arrest or reverse desertification that
ignore this complexity are likely to succeed. In a single volume,
Desertification in Developed Countries' describes the multiple
dimensions of desertification as well as the novel approaches that
have been used to address it within the economies of developed
countries. This is done from the perspectives and experiences of
the numerous authors who have contributed to this book.
By some measure the most widely produced chemical in the world
today, sulfuric acid has an extraordinary range of modern uses,
including phosphate fertilizer production, explosives, glue, wood
preservative and lead-acid batteries. An exceptionally corrosive
and dangerous acid, production of sulfuric acid requires stringent
adherence to environmental regulatory guidance within
cost-efficient standards of production.
This work provides an experience-based review of how sulfuric
acid plants work, how they should be designed and how they should
be operated for maximum sulfur capture and minimum environmental
impact. Using a combination of practical experience and deep
physical analysis, Davenport and King review sulfur manufacturing
in the contemporary world where regulatory guidance is becoming
ever tighter (and where new processes are being required to meet
them), and where water consumption and energy considerations are
being brought to bear on sulfuric acid plant operations. This 2e
will examine in particular newly developed acid-making processes
and new methods of minimizing unwanted sulfur emissions.
The target readers are recently graduated science and
engineering students who are entering the chemical industry and
experienced professionals within chemical plant design companies,
chemical plant production companies, sulfuric acid recycling
companies and sulfuric acid users. They will use the book to
design, control, optimize and operate sulfuric acid plants around
the world.
Unique mathematical analysis of sulfuric acid manufacturing
processes, providing a sound basis for optimizing sulfuric acid
manufacturing processes.
Analysis of recently developed sulfuric acid manufacturing
techniques suggestsadvantages and disadvantages of the new
processes from the energy and environmental points of view.
Analysis of tail gas sulfur capture processes indicates the best
way to combine sulfuric acid making and tailgas sulfur-capture
processes from the energy and environmental points of view.
Draws on industrial connections of the authors through years of
hands-on experience in sulfuric acid manufacture. "

The figure of the imposter can stir complicated emotions, from
intrigue to suspicion and fear. But what insights can these
troublesome figures provide into the social relations and cultural
forms from which they emerge? Edited by leading scholars in the
field, this volume explores the question through a diverse range of
empirical cases, including magicians, spirit possession, fake
Instagram followers, fake art and fraudulent scientists. Proposing
'thinking with imposters' as a valuable new tool of analysis in the
social sciences and humanities, this revolutionary book shows how
the figure of the imposter can help upend social theory.
The TALES OF THE BEARTOOTH books describe the author's daunting
efforts to carve a recreation ranch from Montana's rugged Beartooth
Mountains near Yellowstone Park. The first covered his Critter
Encounters and this second describes his adventures with Cowboys
and Dudes.
