Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

When Paula Modersohn-Becker's artistfriends examined her extensive estate afew weeks after her death, they were overwhelmed. They only gradually realised thatin the painter, who had died so young, theyhad had an outstanding artist in their midst.Modersohn-Becker was largely unrecognisedduring her lifetime but is regarded today asone of the pioneers of Expressionism.The sculptor Bernhard Hoetger was one of the few who recognised hertalent from an early stage. Hoetger's memories of Paula Modersohn werepublished in 1920 as an authentic contemporary document in the seriesJunge Kunst. They are reprinted as a facsimile in this revised and extendededition. The volume is a bibliophilic highlight with an essay explaining theartist's life and work from a present-day perspective, together with herbiography and some 40 illustrations of her most important works.

When Antje Freiesleben and Johannes Modersohn opened their own Berlin-based firm Modersohn & Freiesleben Architekten in 1994, the city, which had been divided until 1989, needed to be repaired and re-united. The Potsdamer Platz train station and the office block in the Beisheim Centre in Ebertstrasse, close to this central and now revitalised location, are two significant projects that were designed by the firm in the prevalent spirit of urban renewal of those years. After the millennium, the architects further honed their approach: whether in the city or the countryside, Modersohn & Freiesleben consistently develop the character of their projects in terms of the site, the materials, the construction, and the lives of their clients. Their deliberate engagement with the given environment while simultaneously aiming at an inventive individuality has created an architecture that ensures their houses are functional objects that combine sustainability with aesthetics. This new monograph features 12 built houses alongside other projects from the last two decades. They are located in Berlin, Brandenburg, Sweden, and Canada. Text in English and German.

Die Natura des Mittelalters ist eine Traumerscheinung. So ist die Beschaftigung mit diesem Thema auch aus einem Seminar uber "Traum und Traumdeutung im Mittelalter" hervorgegangen. Etwas von dieser Entruckung hat sich uber die Jahre erhalten, von der Spannung dieser Figur zwischen Traum und Empirie, zwischen Himmel und Erde, sei es wahrend des Studiums in den illustren Handschriftenlesesalen oder bei der Arbeit in Familie und Beruf. Die fur den Druck gekurzte Arbeit wurde 1995 vom Fachbereich Kulturgeschichte und Kulturkunde der Universitat Hamburg als Dissertation angenommen.
