Curator Milena Placentile produced No Time to Lose as a response to the systemic decline of personal time experienced in various parts of the world due to increased hours spent working. This publication documents projects by Amy Alexander, Cathy Busby, Anja Hertenberger & Anja Steidinger, Saki Satom, Abigail Schoneboom, and Tobaron Waxman, while texts by Jim Colquhoun, Milena Placentile, Monika Vykoukal, and Toru Yamamori, complement this with a series of perspectives on contemporary working lives and work in relation to visual arts. No Time to Lose draws attention to the unsustainability of social and economic systems that do not afford people sufficient time outside of work. How can we stop living for the economy and by the clock and start living in ways that are more gratifying and equitable?
Recoded considers digital media from day to day experiences to wider political frameworks in their legal, military and economic aspects. The exhibition and series of events explored digital data, the relationship of embodied experience and digital media, and the scope and significance of surveillance technologies. Recoded features works by Alexander Egger, Anna Jermolaewa, Caleb Larsen, Manu Luksch, David Valentine/MediaShed, Trevor Paglen, plan b, RYbN, skuta and Jens Strandberg, and films by Rebecca Baron, Harun Farocki, Peter Galison and Robb Moss, and Manu Luksch. Presented by Peacock Visual Arts in collaboration with the Centre for Modern Thought at the University of Aberdeen in conjunction with their conference .
ADAPTATION is a project about the impact of design in people's daily lives and the 'redesign' of public spaces by the people who use them. We have invited artists who approach design and everyday life in various ways: Adams, APA (Akay, Kidpele and Made), Brett Bloom and Bonnie Fortune, Marjolijn Dijkman, Brad Downey, Ulrika Erdes, Dominic Hislop and Leopold Kessler. Their work ranges from examinations of the human use and construction of space in photographic documentation and research to interventions in specific locations in the city. Those interventions and investigations show how design structures public life. They suggest alternative ways to experience and use the city. With simplicity and ingenuity, they reveal design as a central force in shaping our daily lives. Presented by Peacock Visual Arts for Six Cities Design Festival. The Six Cities Design Festival is a project developed and managed by The Lighthouse, Scotland's National Centre for Architecture, Design and the City, and is funded by the Scottish Executive.
