Co-Existing in a Globalized World: Key Themes in Inter-Professional
Ethics brings together, and engages with, the scholarly work
accomplished individually under the banner of professional ethics
in various fields. The overarching theme of the volume is that
globalization inevitably pairs professionals from distinct fields
as co-workers. This necessitates serious reflection on how diverse
fields can co-exist and achieve superior results through combining
best practices from each. The authors are leading scholars and
practitioners who have diverse national and distinguished
professional backgrounds. These authors particularly focus on
ethical concerns emerging from the inherent symbiotic relationship
between cultural boundaries, professions and globalization.
Furthermore, they put focused emphasis on ethical compliance with
regard to globalization of professional practices into various
cultural settings. The fields represented in the volume include
international law, comparative education, East-West relations,
engineering and bio-medical ethics, research ethics, and
international professionalism in a cross-cultural context.
Kisspeptin is a key player and regulator of reproduction and exerts
profound effects on male reproductive processes. Degenerative
effects of critical regulators of reproduction, the kisspeptin
peptides, on cellular aspects of sexually immature male gonads are
known but similar information on accessory sex glands remain
elusive. This book, therefore, assess the effects of kisspeptin
treatment by evaluating the cellular architecture at the light and
electron microscopic level and by determining the height of
epithelium in seminal vesicles. In addition DNA damage was analyzed
by DNA ladder assay and DNA fragmentation assay. Kisspeptin-10
exerted a pronounced inhibitory effect on seminal vesicles. It
reduced the height of epithelium and weight of seminal vesicles and
caused considerable DNA damage. Light microscopic examination
evidenced dilatation of the lumen and lack of intricate epithelial
folds. Ultrastructural changes included dilatation of the
endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi cisterns, a reduction of secretory
vesicles and the appearance of autophagic vacuoles. This is the
preliminary study of the effect of kisspeptin on seminal vesicles.
With advances in sensor technology and the inclusion of low cost
consumer grade sensors in portable systems like smart-phones,
pedestrian navigation using such devices has become a reality. With
consumer grade sensors comes a Pandora's Box full of errors
rendering the unaided navigation solution with these sensors of
limited use. A significant contribution to the overall navigation
error budget associated with pedestrian navigation is accurate
attitude estimation. This research develops different sensor fusion
techniques to utilize the Earth's magnetic field for attitude and
rate gyroscope error estimation in pedestrian navigation
environments where it is assumed that GNSS is denied. A novel
Quasi-Static magnetic Field (QSF) based attitude and angular rate
error estimation technique is developed to effectively use magnetic
measurements in highly perturbed environments. This technique is
used with the proposed Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) based attitude
estimator for hand-held devices. Results indicate that the proposed
algorithms effectively estimate attitude and gyroscope errors,
reducing the overall navigation error budget by over 80% in the
urban and indoor environments.
