At present, elderly people are surfing from dementia and
Alzheimer's disease across the world. The aged population has been
increasing and continues in the coming decades. Those elderly who
are suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease require
continuous attention. Therefore, these people need a responsible
person (either a nurse or a family caretaker) to look after and
provide support in any case of emergency. The number of these
patients is dramatically increasing. This is difficult to care for
them all by hiring a personal caretaker for each patient.
Consequently, with the help of electronics and computer technology,
scientists currently develop efficient and user-friendly devices
that can help look after a patient easily or even remotely. Hence,
it is possible to look after not only a single patient but also
monitor a number of patients at the same time.
This book aims to understand and learn the concept and procedure
involved in the design of Base Isolated Structures. The base
isolators are designed in accordance with the UBC-97 code
provisions for the isolated structures, and the super structure is
designed in accordance with ACI-99 code. The analysis and design is
carried out with the help of a structural analysis software named
ETABS (Extended Three Dimensional Analysis of Building Systems).
The type of analysis performed is static linear and P-Delta effects
are also incorporated in the analysis with the help of the analysis
software. First a fixed base structure is modeled and analyzed. The
base shears calculated from the analysis of the fixed base
structure is then used to calculate the stiffness of the isolators
and to set the design displacement and time period of the base
isolated structure. After the design of structures, both fixed base
and isolated base, a comparison between the two is made to study
the effects of implementing the base isolation technique.
This book is intended to introduce computer aided comparative
analysis of different types of Moment Resisting Frames such as
Special Moment Resisting Frame, Ordinary moment resisting frame,
Dual Moment Resisting Frame and Intermediate Moment Resisting Frame
by considering actual existing high rise building. The computer
modeling of the building is done by ETABs (Extended Three
dimensional Analysis of Building Systems) and the foundation
analysis is done on SAFE. The modeling procedure of the softwares
and structural analysis concepts are comprehensively explained in
this book. In this book ACI code is used for gravity analysis and
UBC-97 is used for seismic load analysis. The various moment
resisting frame models of the building are compared in story drift,
story shear, beam reinforcement and column reinforcement. From
analysis it is found that the Special Moment Resisting Frame has
inherent high over strength and ductility than Intermediate and
Dual Moment Resisting Frame that's why the Special Moment Resisting
Frame has ultimately less base shear than Moment Resisting Frame
which ultimately causes less story drift and story shear.
Petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where crude oil
is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products, such
as gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, and
liquefied petroleum gas, it consist of several units which have
great importance such as Heat exchanger trains, Pre flash tower,
Crude distillation tower and Vacuum distillation.It is important to
size and design distillation tower properly and expertly to get
desire products of petroleum with their required specifications.

are carried out in refinery. Chapter four discuss important factors
which have sound impact on distillation operation, chapter five
discusses about the Designing of crude distillation tower for 6000
BPSD production. Chapter six and seven Discuss about selection of
necessary equipments used in fuel refinery such as pumps, heat
exchangers, valves etc. And lastly the utilities require for plant
operation.
