The second season of the US sci-fi drama that follows the attempts
of Lawkeeper Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) to keep the peace in the
futureworld frontier town of Defiance. In the near future, Earth's
landscape has been decimated after years of war with the Votans, an
alien race seeking a new home after their own star system was
destroyed in a stellar collision. With a ceasefire now in effect,
an itinerant Nolan returns to the ruins of his former home town of
St. Louis, now known as Defiance, accompanied by his adopted alien
daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), to help keep the former
warring factions apart. The episodes are: 'The Opposite of
Hallelujah', 'In My Secret Life', 'The Cord and the Ax', 'Beasts of
Burden', 'Putting the Damage On', 'This Woman's Work', 'If You
Could See Her Through My Eyes', 'Slouching Towards Bethlehem',
'Painted from Memory', 'Bottom of the World', 'Doll Parts', 'All
Things Must Pass' and 'I Almost Prayed'.
Spanish for Health Care and Human Services: An Interdisciplinary
Approach for Intermediate and Advanced Speakers underscores the
importance of the integration of the arts and intercultural
communication within medical training and well prepares students to
competently and compassionately serve Spanish-speaking clients and
patients. The book prioritizes students' development of
intercultural communication, recognizing that the ability to
mediate between a patient and health practitioner is at the core of
the health care fields. Rather than grouping content into lists of
words and expressions grouped by semantic fields, it employs a more
systematic, research-based approach, using communicative tasks to
actively engage students with spoken and written texts, while
promoting their linguistic and intercultural skills. Student
projects, based and inspired by authentic materials, give learners
the opportunity to explore topics of interest while also expanding
their linguistic abilities and connecting with Spanish-speaking
communities. Designed to effectively prepare students for complex
professional situations, Spanish for Health Care and Human Services
is an exemplary textbook for intermediate and advanced Spanish
speakers within health care and human services educational programs
and courses.
Ergonomics promotes sustainability through the presence of more
humane companies, that is, healthier, safer, more comfortable and
efficient businesses with one of the objectives of the business
being the promotion of well-being in the context of the discourse
on sustainability. Taking health into account in business policies
helps ensure sustainable production systems. The role of ergonomics
in companies in the business sustainability environment can
contribute to increasing the performance of the organization.
Sustainable development includes social aspects among its
objectives, where work and the worker are fundamental. Likewise,
work can also benefit sustainable development since workers are
active agents in society. Sustainable work is one that improves the
performance of the organization and promotes professional
development, as well as the health of workers in a broad and
positive way (not limited to the absence of disease, but in the
sense of building health) and well-being. In this way, respect and
the development of intelligence and creativity (in the face of
alienating work) are promoted when carrying out work that makes
sense, where not only is the profound importance of physical,
cognitive and organizational issues understood, but also , above
all, the importance of work for the development of culture. There
seems to be a natural synergy between sustainability and
ergonomics, with the aim of understanding and optimizing the
results of human system interactions. When speaking of men (human
factor), machines (technical factor) and environment
(socio-technical factor), one must try to find the concrete
conditions of their interaction through the integrated ergonomic
triad. The result of integration is a whole of common
characteristics that is above the individual characteristics of the
factors, to humanize the other elements in terms of man. The
objective of this book is to present the new trends in sustainable
work through the analysis and application of methods to evaluate
and improve the interaction of human beings with their work, their
work area, and their environment. This book is divided into
sections that focus on concept chapters, case studies, and research
work in the industry, suggesting the use of method engineering
tools, physical ergonomics, organizational ergonomics, cognitive
ergonomics, environmental ergonomics, and sustainable development.
The target audience includes students, academics, researchers,
engineers working in the industry, professionals responsible for
ergonomics or safety and hygiene, and the general professional
public committed to the well-being of human capital and the
performance of the organization. Therefore, the contributions
should address the scientific and practical implications of
industrial engineering, ergonomics, and sustainable development in
manufacturing and services.
1. Analyzing the conflicting meanings of the term ‘cultural
heritage’, this book outlines a framework that will allow the
reader to better grasp the theoretical and practical complexities
of this fascinating notion. 2. Gathering together a range of
existing views on cultural heritage and summarizing the strong and
weak points of the current discourse in a clear, direct way, the
book will be accessible to academics and students, as well as
heritage professionals. 3. There are a large number of books out
there about heritage, but many are quite dated and very few provide
a coherent and structured view of the theoretical tenets behind the
notion of cultural heritage and its practices, as the proposed book
will.
This book is about the formation of identity, primarily in
adolescents, and the danger inherent in creating that identity in
the context of a hyperconnected world. It provides scientific and
regulatory pedagogical knowledge associated with these risks in
creating identity, primarily among young people, arising from
increasing, and increasingly important, screen connection times. It
proposes solutions to the educational challenges of constructing
identity in a hyperconnected society. The book focuses especially
on the process of identity formation in this instance, where both
adolescents and the adults who teach them have forgotten the vital
need to incorporate educational theories and principles, novel,
experimental and basic, kn any discussion of adolescent identity
work.
Although the effort to involve women in engineering has risen in
recent years with the creation of new initiatives and the promotion
of inclusion in technical disciplines, the active participation of
women in engineering professions is continuously lower than
expected. While the need for engineers appears to be constantly
increasing, women still do not fill most of this role and have a
long way to go to even reach an equal split in the field. This
gender gap has a significant impact how women in the STEM fields
are perceived as well as their experiences in their education and
careers. When it comes to Latin American women in IT, their
contribution to science can go unnoticed, their participation
levels in these fields are very low, and they often occupy
lower-level positions than their male counterparts. These issues
need to be discussed, and the experiences of women who work in the
field must be shared. Latin American Women and Research
Contributions to the IT Field highlights the important role of
Latin American women in IT by collecting and disseminating their
frontier-research contributions in order to provide more visibility
and inspire greater participation of Latin American women within
the major field of computer science. With chapters contributed by
female authors from eight Latin American and Caribbean countries,
the book provides a deep analysis of these women's trajectory paths
to high quality theoretical and applied relevant research in
computer science and IT. While highlighting areas such as
inclusivity and STEM education, along with advancements and
achievements in topics that include nonverbal interaction in
virtual reality, fuzzy logic applications in education, and ant
colony optimization, this book is ideal for professionals,
academics, students, and researchers working in the fields of
information technologies and computer science as well as those
interested in gender and women's studies.
