This is an annotated translation of the classic Description de
l'abbaye de La Trappe, the most important eye-witness account of
life at the abbey of La Trappe under Armand-Jean de Rance. The work
includes a map showing the physical layout of the abbey and
detailed discussions of the monks' daily life and practice. It was
written by Andre Felibien des Avaux for Jeanne de Schomberg,
duchess of Liancourt, in 1671, with a new and enlarged edition
being published in 1689. That is the edition translated here, with
copious notes to help the reader appreciate Felibien's account.
This volume contains translations or summaries of the most
important panegyrics in praise of Saint Bernard that were preached
during the reign of Louis XIV. Some of the preachers were and are
regarded as the greatest orators ever to grace the French pulpit.
All the translations are extensively annotated, and there are three
introductory chapters providing a necessary background for
appreciating the sermons. Sixteen preachers are represented, and,
with one exception, none of the material has ever appeared in
English. For those interested in the afterlife of Saint Bernard, as
he was used, and sometimes abused, in the reign of the Sun King,
this collection provides essential primary sources.
Bell's Seasoning is one of America's oldest food brands. It has
been a New England classic for almost 150 years and has legions of
devotees across the land. Bell's is synonymous with Thanksgiving
and the man who made it. Here, for the first time, is an intimate
look at the life of William G. Bell by his great-great-grandson. It
draws upon family stories, conver-sations and documents to create a
narrative from William G's boyhood in New Hampshire to the summit
of his success and untimely death. Filled with humor, insight, and
never-before-heard tales, this little book will bring that little
box with a turkey on it closer to your heart.
Bruce N. Bell was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1935. After two
years in the US Navy he graduated the University of Utah 1962. He
spent 15 years in radio followed by 35 years in advertising. He
lives a contented life with Judy his wife of 52 years.

First published in 1989, A Cloud of Witnesses has been completely
rewritten to incorporate a multitude of minor amendments and a
considerable amount of additional information. Like the first
edition, it is intended as an introduction to the formative first
five hundred years of the Christian theological tradition. In these
pages the opinions and personalities of the Fathers of the Church
that emerge are presented against the intellectual, social, and
political world of their times, but since the book is only an
introduction, the author presents the development of Christian
doctrine in a rather more logical and cohesive manner than was the
case in reality.
An overview of how religious thinking developed in the thousand
years between the end of the Roman Empire and the Reformation, Many
Mansions goes beyond other textbooks by looking at developments in
both the Latin West and the Greek East. In addition to providing an
introduction for readers with no background in theology or history,
Bellpoints out the reasons behind the growing divergence between
the two great halves of Christendom.
Targets of Terror: Contemporary Assassination, aims to address the
repercussions of assassination as a tactic of terrorism and
delineate post-assassination political and societal outcomes across
target type. Assassination of heads of state, such as John F.
Kennedy and Yitzhak Rabin, are rare events but the political
murders of police personnel, local government officials,
politicians, and journalists occur frequently. These 'softer'
targets (low-level and mid-level government officials, for
instance) are often targeted during broader campaigns of terrorist
violence and the Global Terrorism Database (GTD) records a
significant number of these assassination events-16,246 to be
exact-between 1977 and 2017. Both qualitative and quantitative
methods are utilized in this project-using survival analysis to
examine the span of time from a terrorist assassination to
potential shifts in state political institutions. Changes in
political institutions in authoritarian, mixed or tumultuous
regimes are compared against democratic regimes (utilizing Polity
score changes from the Polity IV Index as the indicator of
institutional change and detailed further below). Repressive and
non-repressive regimes are delineated and changes in political
institutions are examined in order to determine the extent to which
the type of assassination target may or may not be linked to
political institutional change. The assassinations and target data
is derived from the GTD and repression levels are measured using
the Political Terror Scale (PTS). Establishing differences in
post-assassination political outcomes across regimes and target
types provides a baseline study upon which to build future
examinations of the types and severity of risks to governmental
institutions as well as to the broader society.
prestado. Solo se puede usar. Es una de las riquezas que debemos
aprender a valorar. La personalidad de tu hijo es la sintesis de un
entramado de influencias, de causas multiples; es el resultado de
un flujo de relaciones y encuentros con sus padres, maestros,
amigos, companeros, vecinos y desconocidos.
charlar, jugar, imaginar y bromear.
