Jace Tanna is having the best summer holidays of his life!
Incredibly, he has been allowed to help out at the Mash-Up
Championship - a thrilling series of electric, recycled car races
through the wild terrain of Rumblemore Island, where Jace lives.
The Mash-Up racers are powered by electricity, sourced from
renewable energy generated by wind, waves, sun - and the island's
smouldering volcano, Mount Rumblemore. All cars are made using
recycled parts and the races are planned by the austere Mr Murcan
who maps the routes and adds extra challenges - tricky traps and
exciting obstacles. Jace is thrilled just to be sweeping the floor
for the teams - but then something even more amazing happens. Team
Hippo ask Jace to work for them after their mechanic is taken ill -
and Jace gets the chance to prove what a brilliant machine-fixer he
is, and to become great friends with Team Hippo's daring young
navigator, a girl called Lexie. Can the youngest mechanic and
navigator in the history of the competition beat the most famous
driver of all, Deesol Dragg? Perhaps, but only if they can first
prove that Dragg is not even abiding by the rules ...
What is going on in the school library? When Col sees something
that looks distinctly non-human hiding among the shelves, he
reckons it must be his imagination (or his love of all things
Space-related) getting the better of him. But his classmate Alicia
is not so sure - and she's determined to get to the bottom of the
mysterious disasters that keep befalling their school. It's a lot
more than Col bargained for at secondary school - and a lot more
fun! Up to now, life at his new school has proved to be pretty
uninspiring - but now it looks as though Col, and his new friend
Alicia, are about to have an adventure that's out-of-this-world!
Bron, an enslaved young Saxon, does the hard work that his master,
the village blacksmith, would rather avoid. His reward is a lack of
food and cruel jeers from other, non enslaved children in the
village. But, unbeknown to all, war is brewing. And when a famous
Saxon warlord arrives at his village Bron gets a chance to prove
that honour and bravery are not only for those who are already
free... A tale of friendship and the desire to belong, this
adventure resonates with all children and immerses readers in the
Anglo-Saxon era, with plenty of detail about the myths and culture
of that time. This new edition contains a helpful guide on how to
pronounce the Anglo-Saxon names in the book. Freedom for Bron has
been shortlisted for the 2017 James Reckitt Hull Children s Book
Award for KS2. Accompanying KS2 activity sheets can be downloaded

hall Flame moved at last. He turned and stepped forwards. It was
time. Now he was standing directly in front of the doors and he
could see that he was badly outnumbered. If he could just hold the
first machine back - the bulldozer at the front - he might be able
to block the way. If....... The black machine looked strong. Flame
was built for speed and he had powerful jaws but the bulldozer was
made to push and to shove. It would not stop. Its caterpillar
tracks would grip the ground firmly but Flame's clawed feet would
scrape and slip on the polished tiles as he tried to hold his
place. He would be pushed backwards and then all the other machines
would come in one after the other. They would surround him and
attack together. He knew this would happen unless he could think of
something else to do. Unless.... "We're here!" called a voice
behind him. Steg powered into the hall
A T-Rex in town? Raptors in the garden? ....Impossible! That's what
