The effect of combined extreme transient loadings on a structure is
not well understood-whether the source is man-made, such as an
explosion and fire, or natural, such as an earthquake or extreme
wind loading. A critical assessment of current knowledge is timely
(with Fukushima-like disasters or terrorist threats). The central
issue in all these problems is structural integrity, along with
their transient nature, their unexpectedness, and often the
uncertainty behind their cause. No single traditional scientific
discipline provides complete answers, rather, a number of tools
need to be brought together: nonlinear dynamics, probability
theory, some understanding of the physical nature of the problem,
as well as modeling and computational techniques for representing
inelastic behavior mechanisms. Nonlinear Dynamics of Structures
Under Extreme Transient Loads covers model building for different
engineering structures and provides detailed presentations of
extreme loading conditions. A number of illustrations are given
quantifying; a plane crash or explosion induced impact loading, the
effects of strong earthquake motion, and the impact and
long-duration effects of strong stormy winds-along with a relevant
framework for using modern computational tools. The book considers
the levels of reserve in existing structures, and ways of reducing
the negative impact of high-risk situations by employing sounder
design procedures.

This book presents interdisciplinary research and scientific
outcomes in sustainable development acquired from the BHAAAS
International Conference on Sustainable Development-ICSD2022 as
part of the 13th Days of Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of
Arts and Sciences held in Sarajevo, June 23-26, 2022. The main
event enabled researchers and experts from 25 countries to exchange
their knowledge, ideas and experiences. The general scope of the
book includes topics presented at three specialized symposia: The
Quadruple Helix Approach, Sustainable Urban Development and
Sustainable Civil Engineering with research topics ranging from
SDGs, sustainable development education, environmental and social
responsibility and consumption to sustainable retrofit strategies,
urban heritage conservation, urban mobility, Space Syntax analysis,
watercourse recovery, railway corridors and more. The book is
recommended for fellow researchers, professionals, and students in
the fields of economy, politics, architecture, urban planning,
civil engineering and related fields.
This book presents a collection of articles on the advanced and
interdisciplinary application of innovative technologies.
Scientific investigations and results of the conference 13th Days
of Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Art and Sciences held
in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, June 23-26, 2022, are
presented in this book. The up-to-date advances in various fields
of engineering have been presented through numerous papers spanning
the disciplines of civil engineering, mechanical engineering,
advanced electrical power systems, computer modeling and
simulations for engineering applications, computer science and
artificial intelligence, geodesy and geoinformation, data science
and geographic information systems and information and
communication technologies. The editors would like to extend
special gratitude to all the chairs of the planned symposia of the
13th Days of BHAAAS for their dedicated work in the production of
this book.
This book promotes an interdisciplinary approach to maintenance,
through the presentation of practical and theoretical research in
the field of electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering. The
goal is to raise the level of maintenance knowledge, taking into
account the continuous advancement of engineering and technology in
all spheres of economy, infrastructure, and public services. This
book contains papers presented at the 30th International Conference
on Organization and Technology of Maintenance (OTO 2021), and the
conference was held on Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of
Osijek, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and
Information Technology Osijek on 10-11 December 2021. The book
brings 36 original papers written by authors from ten countries
that underwent a blind review process by the international review
board members. The conference covers the topics as organization and
management of maintenance, maintenance technologies, quality
management in system maintenance, information systems in
maintenance, product lifecycle management, design for
maintainability, material and structure properties, reliability of
technical systems and environmental safety, diagnosis and prognosis
of failures and operational malfunctions, design optimization for
maintenance, maintenance in technical systems, analysis of
efficiency and cost effectiveness of maintenance, influence of
maintenance on the environment and employee safety, maintenance
legislation, and education for maintenance. The papers presented in
the book reflect the current state of approach to maintenance as an
interdisciplinary field. The OTO conference proved itself as an
ideal opportunity for communication between scientists and experts
in maintenance practice with the aim to raise the level of
expertise and introduce new methods and maintenance procedures into
everyday practice.
This book presents the innovative and interdisciplinary application
of advanced technologies. It includes the scientific outcomes and
results of the conference 12th Day of Bosnian-Herzegovinian
American Academy of Art and Sciences held in Mostar, Bosnia, and
Herzegovina, June 24-27, 2021. The latest developments in various
fields of engineering have been presented through various papers in
civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computing, electrical
and electronics engineering, and others. A new session, Sustainable
Urban Development: Designing Smart, Inclusive and Resilient Cities,
was organized, enabling experts in this field to exchange their
knowledge and expertise.
