The Nasirean Ethics is the best known ethical digest to be composed
in medieval Persia, if not in all mediaeval Islam. It appeared
initially in 633/1235 when Tūsī was already a celebrated scholar,
scientist, politico-religious propagandist. The work has a special
significance as being composed by an outstanding figure at a
crucial time in the history he was himself helping to shape: some
twenty years later Tūsī was to cross the greatest psychological
watershed in Islamic civilization, playing a leading part in the
capture of Baghdad and the extinction of the generally acknowledged
Caliphate there. In this work the author is primarily concerned
with the criteria of human behaviour: first in terms of space and
priority allotted, at the individual level, secondly, at the
economic level and thirdly at the political level.

This report is based on an action research project which involved
service users, managers, staff and trustees. It identifies enablers
of and barriers to increased user involvement. It also describes
emerging approaches and important themes. It will help
practitioners, managers and trustees plot their own journeys
towards increased user involvement. The report: proposes
'user-centred user involvement', distinguishing it from
'management-centred user involvement', as a tool for analysing
whose interests are served; highlights critical factors that enable
change, such as: leadership style, consistent commitment, building
strong relationships and communication between decision makers and
users; can be used to assess if the conditions for developing
user-centred user involvement exist; can also be used for planning
change. This report is aimed at managers, service users, trustees
and consultants who are working to increase user involvement in
their own organisations. It will also be useful to researchers as a
contribution to knowledge and debates about user involvement.
The NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) houses half a million
publications that are a valuable means of information to
researchers, teachers, students, and the general public. These
documents are all aerospace related with much scientific and
technical information created or funded by NASA. Some types of
documents include conference papers, research reports, meeting
papers, journal articles and more. This is one of those documents.
The result of eighteen years of design and research, the A7L and
A7LB spacesuits served during the Apollo, Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz
missions. Designed by International Latex Corporation (ILC) Dover
and with a life support backpack provided by Hamilton Standard, the
A7L featured a water-cooled undergarment, an inner blue pressurized
layer, and a tough white nylon outer hull. After the disastrous
Apollo I fire, ILC produced a version that utilized beta cloth that
is fire resistant up to 650 degrees Celsius. Two basic versions of
the suit were used during Apollo: an EV A7L configuration for the
command module pilot (CMP) that provided low pressure and fire
protection as well as protection for free-space EVA, and the EV A7L
PGA configuration that provided additional protection from the
lunar surface environment. Apollo 7-14 used the A7L design that
provided six hours of primary and thirty minutes of emergency life
support. The longer "J" missions 15, 16 and 17 utilized the A7LB
suit that extended primary life support by an hour, and also
featured additional joints to facilitate operation of the lunar
roving vehicle. CMPs on these missions wore A7LB based H-series A7L
suits, as they needed to perform EVAs to retrieve film from the
Scientific Instrument Module in "deep space." Modified A7LBs were
also used during both Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz. Created by NASA in
1968 and revised in 1971 for the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 missions,
this handbook explains the extravehicular mobility unit, its
subsystems, accessories and operation, as well as emergency
procedures. Originally printed in two volumes by NASA, this version
incorporates both in one book.
NASA SP-2009-1704. Steven J. Dick, Editor. Based on a symposium
held on October 28-29, 2008 at NASA. Scholars turn a critical eye
toward NASA's first 50 years.
This technical history is intended to provide a technical audience
with an introduction to the rendezvous and proximity operations
history of the Space Shuttle Program. It details the programmatic
constraints and technical challenges encountered during shuttle
development in the 1970s and over thirty years of shuttle missions.
An overview of rendezvous and proximity operations on many shuttle
missions is provided, as well systems and flight techniques evolved
to meet new programmatic objectives. Since the publication of the
first edition in October of 2006 additional historical information
has been collected. This revised edition provides additional
information on Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and Apollo/Soyuz.
Some chapters on the Space Shuttle have been updated and expanded.
First published in 1998 as a volume in the NASA "Monograph in
Aerospace History" series. This study contains photographs and
illustrations.
On November 29-30, 2018, in Washington, D.C., the National
Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held the Workshop
on the Continuous Improvement of NASA's Innovation Ecosystem. The
workshop was requested by the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) Office of the Chief Technologist with the
goal of identifying actionable and implementable initiatives that
could build on NASA's current innovation culture to reach a future
state that will ensure the agency's continued success in the
evolving aerospace environment. This publication summarizes the
presentations and discussions from the workshop. Table of Contents

Review of NASA's Evidence Reports on Human Health Risks 2015 Letter
Report is the third in a series of five reports from the Institute
of Medicine that will independently review more than 30 evidence
reports that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has
compiled on human health risks for long-duration and exploration
space flights. This report builds on the 2008 IOM report Review of
NASA's Human Research Program Evidence Books: A Letter Report,
which provided an initial and brief review of the evidence reports.
This letter report reviews seven evidence reports and examines the
quality of the evidence, analysis, and overall construction of each
report; identifies existing gaps in report content; and provides
suggestions for additional sources of expert input. The report
analyzes each evidence report's overall quality, which included
readability; internal consistency; the source and breadth of cited
evidence; identification of existing knowledge and research gaps;
authorship expertise; and, if applicable, response to
recommendations from the 2008 IOM letter report. Table of Contents

This book is published by Springer as open access under the Open
Access CC BY 4.0 Licence and under the auspices of
the International Fluid Academy (IFA,
www.fluidacademy.org). It addresses and covers key aspects
and fundamental elements of rationalized intravenous fluid therapy
for critically ill patients. Intravenous fluids are one of the most
commonly prescribed treatments in inpatient settings and are
frequently administered without appropriate evidence-based
guidelines. Despite their medicinal nature, they are often not
fully recognized as drugs or medications, with accompanying
considerations such as dosing, duration, indications,
contraindications, potential side effects, and de-escalation. The
book seeks to fill this knowledge gap. Each chapter in this book
starts with a clinical vignette and a question that relates to the
content of the chapter. This is followed by a brief summary
abstract, key learning points, the main text, and a conclusion that
answers the clinical question and summarizes the relevant take-home
messages. Additionally, each chapter includes an IFA commentary
that references the latest literature and evidence. The book
commences with an introductory chapter that provides definitions
and terminology, and is then divided into four sections. The first
section covers the basics of intravenous fluid therapy, including
traditional models of fluid compartments and their limitations in
sick patients, fluid bolus dynamics, heart-lung interactions and
their effects on fluid challenge and fluid responsiveness,
traditional and Stewart concepts of arterial blood gas analysis,
and electrolyte physiology related to clinical issues. The second
section discusses commercially available intravenous fluids, while
the third section focuses on fluid therapy in specific clinical
situations. The final section introduces the concepts of fluid
stewardship and appropriate fluid prescription. In accordance with
the mission statement of the International Fluid Academy, which
aims to foster education and to promote research on fluid
management and monitoring in critically ill and other patients,
with the ultimate goal of improving patient survival rates, this
volume makes a valuable contribution to establishing fluid
stewardship at the bedside. The contents of the book will be useful
for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare
professionals from various clinical disciplines working at the
bedside in the emergency room, operating room, or intensive care
unit who require support for their everyday clinical practice.
