St. Nikodim (Nikodemos) was one of the main figures in the monastic
revival on Mt. Athos in the second half of the eighteenth century.
He is perhaps best known as the compiler of "The Philokalia" and
the author of "Unseen Warfare." This edition offers a collection of
chapters from his classic work "The Spiritual Exercises",
translated into English from a Russian edition. As with "Unseen
Warfare" many scholars believe that "The Spiritual Exercises" is an
Orthodox adaptation of an earlier Latin work. In this case "The
Spiritual Exercises" of Ignatius Loyola. This edition provides a
series of meditations on questions touching on man's salvation and
the pursuit of human perfection. It offers clear guidance any
reader who strives to understand better the Christian teaching on
salvation, explaining clearly of what this consist and how it is to
be found.
Interest in home design has been on the rise for some time, but
Kinfolk's focus on slowing down and creating a more intentional,
beautiful home is where the attention is shifting. Through luscious
photographs and insightful interviews, the author takes us into 40
homes around the world, from the Americas to Europe, Asia to
Africa, ending in Australia. The homes range from an old cabin in
the woods to clean-lined modern apartments, from singles living in
small spaces to sprawling, multi-generational houses in the
country. Each will feel unmistakably Kinfolk.
In The Kinfolk Entrepreneur, author Nathan Williams introduces
readers to 40 creative business owners around the globe, offering
an inspiring, in-depth look behind the scenes of their lives and
their companies. Pairing insightful interviews with striking images
of these men and women and their workspaces, The Kinfolk
Entrepreneur makes business personal. The book profiles both
budding and experienced entrepreneurs across a broad range of
industries (from fashion designers to hoteliers) in cities across
the globe (from Copenhagen to Dubai). Readers will learn how
today's industry leaders handle both their successes and failures,
achieve work-life balance, find motivation in the face of
adversity, and so much more. (The book jacket was updated in May
2022; some customers may receive an earlier version of the jacket.)
Kinfolk - launched to great acclaim and instant buzz in 2010 - is
an independently owned quarterly magazine about understated,
unfussy entertaining. Both the content and the aesthetic reflect a
desire to go back to simpler times; to take a hiatus from the
madness of modern life; to build a community around a shared
sensibility; and to foster the endless and energising magic that
results from sharing a meal with good friends. Now there's a
cookbook from the creators of the magazine, with profiles of 40
tastemakers who love to entertain, and who have each provided one
to three of the recipes they most love to share with others,
whether they be simple breakfasts for two, one-pot dinners for six,
or a perfectly composed sandwich for a solo picnic.
