This publication, "Packaging of Materiel: Preservation (FM
38-700)," is a joint regulation for all Department of Defense (DOD)
components which establishes policies on the development of uniform
requirements for the packaging of materiel acquired, stored, or
shipped. The joint regulation implements DOD 4140.1-R, DOD Materiel
Management Regulation, and covers policy requirements concerning
Packaging, Specifications and Standards, Levels of Protection, and
Project Information Exchange. It provides uniform criteria for the
selection and prescription of packaging at the times of
acquisition, storage or shipment. While the Packaging of Materiel
publication relates to both preservation of the unit packs and
packing of the shipping containers, this document will only address
preservation requirements, including levels of protection.
Field Manual (FM) 5-472, "Materials Testing," provides the
technical information necessary for military personnel to obtain
sample and perform engineering tests and calculations on soils,
bituminous paving mixtures, and concrete. These tests and
calculations are required to achieve proper design with these
materials and adequate control of their use in military
construction. This manual covers soils, aggregates, bituminous
cements, bituminous paving mixtures, Portland-cement concrete, and
stabilized soils including stabilizing agents such as bitumens,
cements, lime, fly ash, and chemical modifiers. The manual gives
detailed instructions for taking adequate representative test
samples and step-by-step procedures for making physical-properties
tests and for recording, calculating, and evaluating test results.
The manual explains methods for designing bituminous paving
mixtures and for stabilizing soil. It also gives the procedures and
tests required to control the manufacture of these mixtures. The
manual describes the tools and equipment for performing these tests
and contains general instructions for the care, calibration, and
use of test equipment.
The purpose of this manual, "Airdrop of Supplies and Equipment:
Rigging Airdrop Platforms," is to provide the latest approved
procedures for rigging airdrop Platforms. This manual is written
for use by the parachute rigger. It consists of 10 chapters. The
procedures contained in this manual are typical and serve as the
standard from which all platform rigging is derived. Due to the
uniqueness of some equipment and items, the procedures in a
specific rigging manual may be different from those in this manual.
When procedures are different, those in the specific manual will be
followed. When an item of equipment is specified to be used for
which its minimum or maximum capacity is exceeded, a notice of
exception will be printed at the beginning of each paragraph in
each rigging manual where the exception is authorized. When an item
of airdrop equipment is replaced or a procedure is changed, it will
be impossible to change all manuals in the field at one time.
Therefore, this manual will be changed, when necessary. Chapters 1
through 10 contain specific limitations and general information
about the rigging of airdrop platform loads for low-velocity
airdrop from US aircraft and also shows and tells how to prepare,
attach, and safety tie some of the components and systems used in
the specific rigging manuals of the FM 4-20.100/TO 13C7 series.
This manual, "Multiservice Procedures for Well-Drilling Operations
(FM 5-484)," is a guide for engineer personnel responsible for
planning, designing, and drilling wells. This manual focuses on
techniques and procedures for installing wells and includes
expedient methods for digging shallow water wells, such as hand-dug
wells. Engineer personnel assigned to well-drilling teams must have
a basic understanding of groundwater principles and well-drilling
mechanics and hydraulics to successfully install wells. A well
driller enhances his skills primarily from experience in solving
problems, overcoming obstacles in the field, and learning from
failures. This manual reviews common experiences well drillers
encounter in the field, including well installation and completion
in North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries.
Also Includes Battles And Capitulation Of Santiago De Cuba;
Comments Of Rear Admiral Pullman, German Navy, On The Main Features
Of The War With Spain; Sketches From The Spanish American War By J.
A. Wisner.
This manual meets the first aid training needs of individual
service members. Because medical personnel will not always be
readily available, the nonmedical service members must rely heavily
on their own skills and knowledge of life-sustaining methods to
survive on the integrated battlefield. This publication outlines
both self-aid and aid to other service members (buddy aid). More
importantly, it emphasizes prompt and effective action in
sustaining life and preventing or minimizing further suffering and
disability. First aid is the emergency care given to the sick,
injured, or wounded before being treated by medical personnel. The
term first aid can be defined as "urgent and immediate lifesaving
and other measures, which can be performed for casualties by
nonmedical personnel when medical personnel are not immediately
available." Nonmedical service members have received basic first
aid training and should remain skilled in the correct procedures
for giving first aid. This manual is directed to all service
members.
This publication, "Packaging of Materiel: Packing (FM 38-701),"
contains information on the fundamental principles and approved
methods and techniques used in the protection of military supplies
and equipment against deterioration and damage during shipment and
storage. It is published as an official document for use in
operations and in the training of military and civilian personnel
from all segments of the Department of Defense (DOD) and supporting
agencies, as well as for interested industrial personnel. It
contains information based on specifications, standards, and other
pertinent documents, current as of the date of preparation and
coordination of the publication. This manual emphasizes the
importance of packing of military supplies and equipment. It
contains detailed information concerning the requirements to
accomplish packing operations. The requirements include use of
exterior shipping containers; the assembling of items or packs into
the container; anchoring, blocking, bracing, and cushioning of
items or packages within the container; weatherproofing; strapping
of containers; the testing of exterior packs; palletization and
unitization of loads; parcel post; and related subject matter.
