This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the field of
Business Process Management (BPM) with a focus on Business Process
Automation. It achieves this by covering a wide range of topics,
both introductory and advanced, illustrated through and grounded in
the YAWL (Yet Another Workflow Language) language and corresponding
open-source support environment. In doing so it provides the reader
with a deep, timeless, and vendor-independent understanding of the
essential ingredients of business process automation.
The BPM field is in a continual state of flux and is subject to
both the ongoing proposal of new standards and the introduction of
new tools and technology. Its fundamentals however are relatively
stable and this book aims to equip the reader with both a thorough
understanding of them and the ability to apply them to better
understand, assess and utilize new developments in the BPM
field.
As a consequence of its topic-based format and the inclusion of
a broad range of exercises, the book is eminently suitable for use
in tertiary education, both at the undergraduate and the
postgraduate level, for students of computer science and
information systems. BPM researchers and practitioners will also
find it a valuable resource. The book serves as a unique reference
to a varied and comprehensive collection of topics that are
relevant to the business process life-cycle.
The ?eld of Business Process Management (BPM) is marred by a
seemingly e- less sequence of (proposed) industry standards.
Contrary to other ?elds (e.g., civil or electronic engineering),
these standards are not the result of a widely supported
consolidationofwell-understoodandwell-establishedconceptsandpractices.Inthe
BPM domain, it is frequently the case that BPM vendors
opportunistically become involved in the creation of proposed
standards to exert or maintain their in?uence and interests in the
?eld. Despite the initial fervor associated with such standardi-
tion activities, it is no less frequent that vendors either choose
to drop their support for standards that they earlier championed on
an opportunistic basis or elect only to partially support them in
their commercial offerings. Moreover, the results of the
standardization processes themselves are a concern. BPM standards
tend to deal with complex concepts, yet they are never properly
de?ned and all-too-often not informed by established research. The
result is a plethoraof languagesand tools, with no consensuson
conceptsand their implem- tation. They also fail to provide clear
direction in the way in which BPM standards should evolve. One can
also observe a dichotomy between the "business" side of BPM and its
"technical" side. While it is clear that the application of BPM
will fail if not placed in a proper business context, it is equally
clear that its application will go nowhere if it remains merely a
motivational exercise with schemas of business processes hanging on
the wall gathering dust.
Life is good in Elmhurst, Ohio. The war is over, the economy is
booming, and the future looks bright. But just across the deep
ravine known as Dog's Run is a different life, one where times are
always hard and dreams seldom come true. When Wanda Jean Reider, a
beautiful young woman from the wrong side of town, is found dead in
Dog's Run secrets begin to come out. Secrets that will expose
hidden sins and a dark side of life carried on behind the manicured
lawns and inside the back rooms of the stores along Main Street.
Secrets that will erupt in violence and lead to a showdown that
will change the lives of some of Elmhurst's best known citizens
forever. Nick Russell, New York Times Kindle bestselling author of
the Big Lake mystery series, weaves a tale of intrigue, lust, and
broken dreams that you will remember long after you finish the last
page. One early reviewer said of Dog's Run, "It's gut-wrenching,
fast-paced, sometimes crude, brutally honest, and often sad. It is
also Nick Russell's finest writing to date. Well done "
Definitive account of the famous 1963 Great Train Robbery - and its
aftermath. In the early hours of Thursday 8th August 1963 at rural
Cheddington in Buckinghamshire, GBP2.6 million (GBP50 million
today) in unmarked GBP5, GBP1 and 10-shilling notes was stolen from
the Glasgow to London nightmail train in a daring and brilliantly
executed operation lasting just 46 minutes. Quickly dubbed the
crime of the century, it has captured the imagination of the public
and the world's media for 50 years, taking its place in British
folklore and giving birth to the myths of The Great Train Robbery.
Ronnie Biggs, Buster Edwards and Bruce Reynolds became household
names. But what really happened? This is the story of four talented
villains who took the criminal world by storm, of the 'perfect
crime'. It is also the story of ruthless policemen, determined to
hunt the robbers down and to make sure nobody slipped through the
net, not even the innocent. It is the story of an Establishment
under siege, and of one mistake which cost the robbers 307 years in
prison. Fifty years later, here is the story set out in full for
the first time, a true-life crime thriller, and also a vivid slice
of British social history.
When an armored car hijacking leaves two men dead, Arizona Sheriff
Jim Weber takes the crime personally, because one of the dead men
is his brother-in-law. His hunt for the killers leads him into a
world of sordid sex, deceit, and violence, with a suspect list that
includes jilted women, a family of anti-government survivalists,
and the beautiful wife of the richest man in town. With a plot that
has more twists and turns than an Arizona mountain road, a cast of
characters you won't soon forget, and a shocking ending that shakes
the town of Big Lake to its very foundation, this first book in the
Big Lake series will keep you turning pages to the very end
