Gifty' gift shop next door. Episodes are: 'Manny Come Home',
'Elephants and Hens', 'Moo-ma and Moo-pa', 'A Little Flutter', 'The

A Girl with a Book and Other Plays brings together four plays for
young people by acclaimed playwright Nick Wood. Topical and
wide-ranging, they concern refugees, friendship, loss and courage.
* Stage adaptation of Mick Jackson's celebrated novel (1997), which
was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, the Whitbread First Novel
Award and winner of the Royal Society of Authors' First Novel
Award. * Adapted by Nick Wood, critically acclaimed playwright and
bestselling author of A Girl With A Book and Other Plays; his works
are performed extensively in the UK, USA and Europe. * Co-produced
by Nottingham Playhouse (co-producer of the critically acclaimed
stage version of 1984) and Nick Wood's AJTC (A Girl with a Book).
Original by Arthur Ransome Adapted by Nick Wood Father is away and
mother brings Roger, John, Susan and Titty to stay at Pin Mill
where they can spend the summer messing about in boats. Their
adventure begins when they go out with Jim on his boat Goblin. But
disaster strikes when the boat is becalmed and Jim goes ashore to
fetch petrol. Fog descends over the Harwich estuary and, as the
tide turns, the boat begins to drift away ...
Persecuted for being different, Andrea and Riva are forced to
flee their homeland and learn to live in a country very different
than their own. Successfully produced in the UK, Holland, Germany
and Croatia, this play is suitable for schools, colleges and youth
theatres.
." . . shows us the extent to which children are capable of
taking control of their own lives and conquering the absurdities of
bigotry and hatred."--Berlin Theatre Festival
