Recent studies suggest that current policy approaches to tackling childhood poverty have had limited efficacy. In the developing world, the problem is more challenging still, as highlighted by the large number of countries that are off track in meeting the child-related Millennium Development Goals. Millions of pounds of international development funds are invested annually in social protection programmes to tackle poverty.
