Grace is a little girl; Phyllis is the old lady next door. Phyllis
lives alone and her memory is fading, but that doesn't stop Grace
from liking her. They find that, despite the gap in their ages,
they have much in common and a moving and enduring friendship is
born. This is a deeply touching story for all the family of how a
little girl befriends her elderly neighbour who has dementia, and
the sensitive and engaging illustrations are beautifully observed.
Darren is Sharon's boyfriend and he has promised to buy her a
crunchy bar. When he fails to turn up for a date, however, she
imagines all manner of extraordinary things that might have
happened to him. Will Darren have a decent excuse for Sharon, or
might he have ruined his chances?
Whenever he is naughty, a young boy's mother threatens him with Mrs
Cole, who appears to be a disreputable character living nearby in
total chaos. One day he runs away from home and finds himself
outside Mrs Cole's house. She invites him in and he discovers that
Mrs Cole's noisy, kindly house is welcoming and warm and far from
being frightening. 'Funny, touching and true' Sunday Telegraph 'One
of the most outstanding young children's picture books for some
time.' Financial Times
A remarkable and delightful book that shows how children are alike
the world over, while at the same time celebrating the rich and
interesting diversity of their ordinary lives.
