A lecture delivered before the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia,
February 1893, and before the National Electric Light Association,
St. Louis, March 1893.
Nikola Tesla's legacy lives on in numerous ways today - from the
electric car manufacturers Tesla to the Belgrade Nikola Tesla
Airport.
This book is a readable and affordable collection of Tesla's
patents, inventions and thoughts on free energy, anti-gravity, and
other futuristic inventions. Covered in depth, often in Tesla's own
words, are such topics as wireless transmission of power, death
rays, and radio-controlled airships.
The Inventions, Researches and Writings of Nikola Tesla is the
definitive record of the pioneering work of one of the modern
world's most groundbreaking inventors. During the early twentieth
century, Tesla blazed the trail that electrical technology followed
for decades afterward. Although he pioneered inventions like
alternating current (AC), radio, wireless transmission, and X-rays,
and worked with innovators like George Westinghouse and Thomas
Edison, the once-celebrated Tesla was later largely forgotten by
history. This beautiful leatherbound edition brings together many
of the findings and theories that made this genius famous (and to
some, infamous), showing not only the scope of Nikola Tesla's
theories and inventions, but allowing contemporary readers to
experience the visionary range of his thinking. In addition to its
many detailed reproductions of Tesla's patents and inventions, this
highly collectible book includes dozens of thought-provoking
lectures and articles. The Inventions, Researches and Writings of
Nikola Tesla affords a rare glimpse of a true genius at work.
The fascinating autobiography of the legendary inventor behind
the radio, wireless energy, robotics, and much more.
Famous for his pioneering contributions to the electronic age,
his lifelong feud with Thomas Edison, and his erratic behavior,
Nikola Tesla was one of the most brilliant and daring inventors and
visionaries of his time. "My Inventions" is Tesla's autobiography,
with meditations on his major discoveries and innovations,
including the rotating magnetic field, the magnifying transmitter,
and the Tesla coil. This volume also includes three articles by
Tesla, as well as an enlightening introduction that discredits many
of the myths surrounding the thinker's eccentric life. This rare
window into the industrial age's most tragic genius will fascinate
historians, scientists, aspiring inventors, and curious fans
alike.
Nikola Tesla is the true unsung prophet of the electric age,
without whom our radio, auto ignition, telephone, television, and
alternating current power generation and transmission would all
have been impossible. Yet his life and times have vanished largely
from public access. This autobiography is released to remedy this
situation, and to understand the life and the mind of Nikola Tesla.
CONTENTS
Chapter 1: My Early Life -The progressive development of man is
vitally dependent on invention. It is the most important product of
his creative brain. Its ultimate purpose is the complete mastery of
mind over the material world, the harnessing of the forces of
nature to human needs.
Chapter 2: -I shall dwell briefly on these extraordinary
experiences, on account of their possible interest to students of
psychology and physiology and also because this period of agony was
of the greatest consequence on my mental development and subsequent
labors.
Chapter 3: How Tesla Conceived The Rotary Magnetic Field -At the
age of ten I entered the Real Gymnasium which was a new and fairly
well equipped institution. In the department of physics were
various models of classical scientific apparatus, electrical and
mechanical. The demonstrations and experiments performed from time
to time by the instructors fascinated me and were undoubtedly a
powerful incentive to invention.
Chapter 4: The Discovery of the Tesla Coil and Transformer -For
a while I gave myself up entirely to the intense enjoyment of
picturing machines and devising new forms. It was a mental state of
happiness about as complete as I have ever known in life. Ideas
came in an uninterrupted stream and the only difficulty I had was
to hold them fast.
Chapter 5: -As I review the events of my past life I realize how
subtle are the influences that shape our destinies. An incident of
my youth may serve to illustrate.
Chapter 6: -No subject to which I have ever devoted myself has
called for such concentration of mind, and strained to so dangerous
a degree the finest fibers of my brain, as the systems of which the
magnifying transmitter is the foundation.
During the early twentieth century, the eccentric and brilliant
inventor Nikola Tesla blazed the path that electrical development
followed for many years to come. This fascinating illustrated
record of Tesla's pioneering work gathers many of his most famous
findings and theories, allowing contemporary readers to experience
the amazing range of his thinking. It includes lectures, articles,
and discussions--particularly those bearing on polyphase motors and
the effects obtained with currents of high potential and high
frequency--and gives us a rare glimpse of a genius at work.
Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 - 7 January 1943) was a Serbian American
inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and
futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the
modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system. Tesla's
achievements and his abilities as a showman demonstrating his
seemingly miraculous inventions made him world-famous.Although he
made a considerable amount of money from his patents, he spent a
lot financing his own projects. He lived for most of his life in a
series of New York hotels although the end of his patent income and
eventual bankruptcy led him to live in diminished circumstances.
Tesla's work fell into relative obscurity after his death, but
since the 1990s, his reputation has experienced a resurgence in
popular culture. His work and reputed inventions are also at the
center of many conspiracy theories and have also been used to
support various pseudosciences, UFO theories and New Age occultism.
In 1960, in honor of Tesla, the General Conference on Weights and
Measures for the International System of Units dedicated the term
"tesla" to the SI unit measure for magnetic field strength.
Tesla was not an ordinary scientist/inventor. His long life,
beliefs and unusual psyche are the testimony to his uniqueness.
Even today, there are fan clubs, Tesla societies all over the
world. Recently an electric car company, the Tesla Motors were
founded, bearing his name.I am intrigued and fascinated by Tesla
because of mankind's current crisis dealing with energy and the
United States energy politics leading the country to ever
increasing adventures and wars all around the Globe. Oil is
addictive substance to everyday life, especially if immensely rich
oil companies dictate foreign policies and renewable energy
research.
2011 Reprint of 1894 Edition. Special care has been taken to render
the numerous illustrations in this edition as true to the original
as possible. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced
with Optical Recognition Software. "The Inventions, Researches and
Writings of Nikola Tesla" is a book compiled and edited by Thomas
Commerford Martin detailing the work of Nikola Tesla. The book is a
comprehensive compilation of Tesla's work and profusely
illustrated. Written at the end of the 19th century, the book is a
record of Tesla's pioneering activities, research, and works. Tesla
is recognized as one of the foremost electrical investigators and
inventors. At the time of publication, the book was the "bible" of
every electrical engineer practicing the profession. The book
includes Tesla's lectures, miscellaneous articles and discussions,
and makes note of all his inventions up to the date of publication,
particularly polyphase motors and the effects obtained with
currents of high potential and high frequency. The book
demonstrates that Tesla continued on the scientific frontier,
barely pausing for an instant to work out details of utilization
that may have at once been obvious to him. Wherever possible his
own language was employed in the writing of the book.

Part philosophical ponderings on humanity's relationship to the
universe, part scientific extrapolation on what technological
advancement might bring to that understanding, this long essay,
first published in Century Illustrated Magazine in June 1900, is
yet another example of the genius of Serbian inventor NIKOLA TESLA
(1857-1943), the revolutionary scientist who forever changed the
scientific fields of electricity and magnetism. From the
possibilities presented by robotics to the "civilizing potency of
aluminum," from a "self-acting engine" to one of the first
proposals to use solar power to run industrial civilization, and
much more, this is a wide-ranging but illuminating look into the
thoughts of an unsung hero of scientific philosophy.
Serbian inventor NIKOLA TESLA (1857-1943) was a revolutionary
scientist who forever changed the scientific fields of electricity
and magnetism. Tesla's greatest invention, A/C current, powers
almost all of the technological wonders in the world today, from
home heating to computers to high-tech robotics. His discoveries
gave mankind the television. And his dream of wireless
communication came to pass in both the radio and eventually the
cell phone. Yet his story remains widely unknown. History buffs,
science enthusiasts, backyard inventors, and anyone who has ever
dared to dream big will find the life of Nikola Tesla, written in
his own words, engaging, informative, and humorous in its
eccentricity.
This is an excellent resource for those who wish to study about
Tesla's experiments. The notes are highly detailed, and clearly
show his attempts at transmitting electricity without wires by
means of his magnifying transmitter.
