Documentary about Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich and his fight against Stalin's brutal Soviet regime. The film illustrates how Shostakovich used his symphonies nos. 4-9 to convey his opposition to his country's tyrannical and oppressive rule while many of his peers were being executed and imprisoned during the Great Terror and Shostakovich himself was being denounced.
