En este trabajo se presenta la experiencia de hepatologos y expertos cubanos, mexicanos y espanoles en Hepatitis C. En el primer capitulo se hace un resumen sobre los aspectos mas importantes de la biologia molecular del virus de la Hepatitis C. Se revisa la epidemiologia, la clinica asi como de la historia natural de esta enfermedad y se ha tenido el cuidado de incluir un capitulo que incluye las manifestaciones extrahepaticas mas importantes de la infeccion por este agente, asi como todas aquellas entidades asociadas la enfermedad, lo cual es de inestimable valor para medicos internistas y familiares que, muchas veces, no encuentran explicacion a la enorme gama de manifestaciones clinicas que presentan estos enfermos. Se describen las principales tecnicas de laboratorio que permiten hacer el diagnostico serologico de la Hepatitis C. Se pone enfasis en el tratamiento de la hepatitis cronica por virus C incluyendo el trasplante hepatico en caso de complicaciones como la cirrosis hepatica y el hepatocarcinoma. Finalmente se incluyen dos capitulos sobre las peculiaridades de la Hepatitis C en ninos y el embarazo.
