In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this timely Handbook builds upon
research and practice to discuss and assess what is currently known
about virtual work and its evolution, given the increasing numbers of
those working virtually.
Taking a holistic approach to the subject, the expert contributors
review the critical areas of virtual work split into five thematic
parts. Firstly technology, the foundation of virtual work, is
thoroughly discussed focussing on new forms of technology and the use
of AI. Working practices of both the individual and virtual teams are
then fully reviewed alongside the organisation, context and emerging
systems that support virtual work in practice. Forward-thinking, this
Handbook, looks at the future direction and where we go from here
towards the next decade of virtual work.
Managers and practitioners who are moving towards virtual or hybrid
working or continuing to work remotely will find this an excellent
resource for ongoing and future guidance. Scholars and researchers
interested in this expanding subject will find this illuminating and
informative.
This Research Handbook offers unparalleled insights into the
large-scale resurgence of interest in Marx and Marxism in recent
years, with contributions devoted specifically to Marxist critiques
of law, rights, and the state. The Research Handbook brings
together thirty-three scholars of Marx, Marxism, and law from
around the world to offer theoretically informed introductions to
the Marxist tradition of social critique, contemporary Marxist
analyses of law and rights, and future orientations of Marxist
legal analysis. Chapters testify to the strength of Marxist
critical tools for understanding the role of law, rights, and the
state in capitalist societies. Â Exploring Marxist critique
across an extraordinarily wide range of scholarly disciplines, this
Research Handbook is a must-read for scholars of law, politics,
sociology, philosophy, and political economy who are interested in
Marxism. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students in these and
related disciplines will also benefit from the Research Handbook.
This landmark first anthropological volume on the topic of
‘circular economies’ brings together a range of international
scholars with regional specialisations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and
South America to examine the concept's global implications.
Aspirations towards circular economies have become increasingly
prominent around the world, with the EU adopting an ambitious
‘circular economy action plan’, and China enshrining its own
circular economy (xunhuan jingji) in law since 2008. Yet until now,
social anthropology has largely neglected the potentially deep
social impacts of this concept, focusing instead on metrics of
waste, despite its obvious implications through every level of the
economy and society. This volume covers a diverse array of
international actors, including waste-pickers, traders and
policymakers, and the global movement of materials like gold,
plastic and textiles. Through ethnographic and qualitative case
studies, it exposes many of the tensions that exist between state
and corporate ideals of the circular economy, and the vernacular
practices and philosophies that exist around the world.
Contributors examine the frictions that emerge as these concepts
and materials travel across different geographic contexts, and ask
– what can an anthropological analysis contribute to a concept
that is increasingly reshaping economies and restructuring global
flows of virgin commodities, recyclables, and waste?

Be warned, Reader, this book isn’t about a normal spice bag, nor
is it about a normal boy. Quite the opposite. This book is about
the Spice Bag, and our unlikely hero: a 10-year-old boy named
George… It also has: A dash of adventure A sprinkle of mystery A
greasy villain And a talking mouse And then there’s Mr
Spicebag’s chipper, which seems to be at the centre of
everything. George is about to have the weirdest week of his life.
‘The greatest adventure about spice bags ever written!’ Chip

Frank Knox served as Secretary of the Navy during some of the most
eventful years in U.S. naval history, his tenure coinciding with a
number of dramas such as the innovative 1940 bases-for-destroyers
initiative (which he conceptualized prior to entering the
administration), the undeclared naval war in the Atlantic against
Germany’s U-boats in 1941, the December 1941 attack on Pearl
Harbor, the subsequent naval war in the Pacific, and naval landings
in North Africa and Italy. Knox’s most important contribution to
the war effort was his leadership in building a 1,000-ship fleet,
without which the much-heralded landings and battles might never
have been possible. In this comprehensive biography, Christopher D.
O’Sullivan offers a portrait of the Roughrider in FDR’s
cabinet.
Scott Pilgrim is in trouble. Ramona’s third evil ex-boyfriend,
Todd Ingram, is currently dating the former love of Scott
Pilgrim’s life! Envy Adams broke Scott’s heart a year and a
half ago. Now she and her evil art-rock band are back, and
they’re getting Scott’s band to open a show two days from now!
That’s just enough time for Scott to fight Todd, keep Ramona
happy, fend off demented ex-girlfriends, and practise that new
setlist. Right?? All will be revealed in ‘Scott Pilgrim and the
Infinite Sadness’, the third volume in Bryan Lee O’Malley’s
brilliant graphic novel series.
This book is not about leadership, at least in the way we normally
think about it. Leadership is not about position, or
authority. It’s not about big speeches or grand visions.
Leadership is engaging others to solve daunting challenges. Those
challenges appear in our professional lives, in our communities,
our families—and they seem unsolvable, beyond our ability to see
what needs to be done or outside our capacity to make the changes
needed. They are not. Because, leadership is an activity—small
actions taken in moments of opportunity. And as you start to look
around, you can begin to see more of those moments, seize the
opportunity in those moments. Most importantly, you can help others
see those opportunities too. That’s why everyone can lead and the
real power to solve our most important challenges is when everyone
leads.
