Ken Russell helms this graphic 1971 adaptation of a documented
witchcraft case, which took place in France in 1634. Outspoken
priest Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed) finds himself accused of
seducing a group of hysterical nuns while in demon form by Mother
Superior Sister Jeanne (Vanessa Redgrave), who is obsessed with
Grandier and driven into a fit of envy when he marries another
woman. With the involvement of charismatic exorcist Father Barre
(Michael Gothard), the affair turns into a sordid mass exorcism of
the tainted convent. With much controversy surrounding its subject
matter of religion combined with violence and sex, many cuts were
made to the film in order for it to attain certification.
Drawing its inspiration from Anthony Mann's 'The Fall of the Roman
Empire' (1964) and Stanley Kubrick's 'Spartacus' (1960), Ridley
Scott's Oscar-winning take on the Roman epic lavishes the genre
with the very latest in computer-generated effects technology.
After the death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris),
Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) betrays the Emperor's beloved General
Maximus (Russell Crowe) and takes the throne for himself. Maximus
is sold as a slave and then trained as a gladiator, keeping himself
strong with thoughts of revenge. Eventually he is taken to the
Colosseum, where he prepares to fight in a contest presided over by
the corrupt Commodus. Will he suffer the ultimate humiliation and
die for the entertainment of his enemy or will he survive the
rigors of the arena and find a way of exacting his revenge?

Cult horror directed by David Cronenberg. Frank Carveth (Art
Hindle)'s wife Nola (Samantha Eggar) is being treated at an
institute run by the eccentric psychologist Dr Raglan (Oliver
Reed), who is known for using bizarre techniques to break down
defensive barriers in the psyche of his patients. After Nola's
parents are brutally killed and his daughter returns from a visit
to her mother covered in bruises, Frank comes to suspect that his
wife and Raglan are up to no good. What he discovers is stranger
still: a group of cloned midgets, apparently spurred on by Nora's
psychopathic rages, are responsible for the attacks. Since no one
else will believe him, it is up to Frank to try and put an end to
the violence...

Powerful drama about loyalties and the industrial workplace in
early 60s Britain. Factory worker Tom Arnold (Richard Attenborough)
does not share the same feelings as his fellow workers in a
developing industrial dispute and refuses to go on strike with
them. This results in him being 'sent to Coventry' by all
concerned, including his best friend Joe Wallace (Michael Craig).
The newspapers soon hear about this and the story becomes a matter
of national concern, with many different parties trying to use
Tom's stance to their own ends.
Double bill featuring two popular comedy movies directed by Richard
Lester. 'The Three Musketeers' (1973) is the star-studded
adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic novel. The Three Musketeers
(Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay and Richard Chamberlain) are in the
service of the King of Paris when D'Artagnan (Michael York) arrives
on the scene, creating a stir by single-handedly defeating two
soldiers in a magnificent swordfight. Cardinal Richelieu (Charlton
Heston) tries to embarrass the Queen of France, but D'Artagnan and
the Three Musketeers come to her rescue. In 'The Four Musketeers'
(1974), Milady (Faye Dunaway) is determined to wreak revenge on the
Three Musketeers for foiling her plot to discredit the Queen of
France. She enrols two accomplices, Cardinal Richelieu and the
Count of Rochefort, and the trio of swashbuckling heroes find
themselves once again fighting for the good name of the Queen and
the life of Constance.
