Following 'Lawrence of Arabia' (1962), director David Lean continued his epic phase with this adaptation of Boris Pasternak's novel. During World War One, Yuri Zhivago (Omar Sharif) studies to become a doctor in Moscow. He marries his childhood sweetheart Tonya (Geraldine Chaplin), but is attracted to dressmaker's daughter Lara (Julie Christie), herself engaged to young revolutionary Pasha (Tom Courtenay). Lara is also conducting an affair with government official Komarovsky (Rod Steiger). Yuri and Lara's paths cross again in the aftermath of the Bolshevik revolution, and the two begin a passionate affair.

This is a rare account of the horrors of the WWII death camps from someone who experienced them. Born into an Orthodox Jewish family in Prague, Hoffman lost his entire family in the Holocaust. The story of his own ordeals, and how he managed to survive Auschwitz, makes for chilling reading. No one could experience what Hoffman did and be unaffected, and a good part of the book recounts his struggles to establish a normal life after being relocated to post-war England. An important part of his recovery was discovering his talent for the game of bridge, and becoming a professional player.
Brian Senior and Mark Horton are experienced international players, and also two of the world's top bridge journalists. In one or the other capacity they have attended every World Championship and major international tournament in the last twenty years, and in this book they share their unique knowledge and experience, as well as the stories only they can tell. The reader will share the excitement of the key hands and plays that made the difference between winning and losing -- the successes and the disasters. In addition, the authors afford us a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a bridge journalist, as we see them following the top players around the world in search of stories and adventure. Do they do it for love or money -- or is it something else? Read the book and find out! The illustrations draw on the authors' personal collection of candid photographs.
It is 922 AD. Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan (Antonio Banderas) is an Arab ambassador travelling through Northern Europe with his mentor Melchisidek (Omar Sharif). They chance upon a band of Vikings, who are licking their wounds after an attack by mysterious creatures. A fortune teller prophecies that unless the Vikings can find a 13th warrior then they are doomed to destruction. This warrior must be an outsider, and soon Ahmed is enlisted to join the clan, but further attacks rapidly place the band under mortal threat.
