For 25 centuries, the animal stories which go by the name of
Aesop's Fables have amused and instructed generations of children
and adults alike. They are still as fresh and poignant today as
they were to the ancient Greeks who composed them. This beautifully
illustrated edition contains some of the best-loved fables,
including the Boy who cried Wolf, the Lion and the Mouse, the Goose
that Laid the Golden Egg, the Hare and the Tortoise, and The Town
Mouse and the Country Mouse alongside many of the lesser-known
tales. These timeless stories are illustrated with 35 wood
engravings by Agnes Miller Parker (1895-1980), one of the greatest
British wood engraving artists of the twentieth century. Parker was
influenced by the art of Wyndham Lewis and the Cubist and Vorticist
movements which flourished in the period between the wars. Her
distinctive work is strikingly stylised and deceptively simple.
Commissioned in the 1930s by the fine press publisher, Gregynog
Press, for their edition of the work, these exquisite wood
engravings inspired by the fables are among Parker's finest.
Read Write Inc. Comprehension is the next step in developing
children's composition and writing skills once they have become
confident readers. The programme offers 30 weekly modules,
specially written to link reading, writing, comprehension and
guided composition activities to carefully levelled texts.
Suggested routes through the modules, and synopses of all the
associated texts are also included in the handbook for this series.
14 of the modules contain a full non-fiction text or story to
support the activities. 16 of the modules are linked to illustrated
children's books which can all be purchased from Oxford University
Press in the same way as the module packs.
Prepared by the Task Committee on Pilot Tube and Other Guided
Boring Methods of the Committee on Trenchless Installation of
Pipelines. Sponsored by the Utility Engineering and Surveying
Institute of ASCE Pilot Tube and Other Guided Boring Methods, is a
manual of practice covering the design and installation of utility
pipelines of various types under roads, railroads, constructed and
natural structures, and other surface obstacles using pilot tubes
and other guided boring methods. The pilot tube method is a
multistage technique of accurately installing a pipe to line and
grade by use of a guided pilot tube followed by upsizing to install
the pipe. The associated methods can be effective tools for the
accurate installation of small diameter pipelines. MOP 133 provides
a detailed description of the pilot tube and guided boring methods
by providing chapters on project planning, site and geotechnical
assessment, shaft design, pipe characteristics and design, contract
documents, and construction aspects. This manual of practice will
be of interest to engineers, contractors, and utility owners
installing, replacing, and upgrading utility pipelines.

A single tick bite can have debilitating consequences. Lyme disease
is the most common disease carried by ticks in the United States,
and the number of those afflicted is growing steadily. If left
untreated, the diseases carried by ticks--known as tick-borne
diseases--can cause severe pain, fatigue, neurological problems,
and other serious health problems. The Institute of Medicine held a
workshop October 11-12, 2010, to examine the state of the science
in Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases.
Contents: What Art Thou, Angelo?; The Final Comedy Of Lemuel
Gulliver; The Beggar's Opera By Bertrand H. Bronson; Of Time,
Personality And The Author By B. H. Lehman; The Solemn Romantics By
J. R. Caldwell; And Dickens And Daumier By Gordon McKenzie.

The U.S. Department of Energy has been at the center of many of the
greatest achievements in science and engineering in this century.
DOE spends billions of dollars funding projects - and plans to keep
on spending at this rate. But, documentation shows that DOE's
construction and environmental remediation projects take much
longer and cost 50% more than comparable projects undertaken by
other federal agencies, calling into question DOE's procedures and
project management. What are the root causes for these problems?
U.S. public schools are responsible for educating large numbers of
English language learners and students with disabilities. This book
considers policies for including students with disabilities and
English language learners in assessment programs. It also examines
the research findings on testing accommodations and their effect on
test performance. Keeping Score for All discusses the comparability
of statesa (TM) policies with each other and with the National
Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) policies and explores the
impact of these differences on the interpretations of NAEP results.
The book presents a critical review of the research literature and
makes suggestions for future research to evaluate the validity of
test scores obtained under accommodated conditions. The book
concludes by proposing a new framework for conceptualizing
accommodations. This framework would be useful both for
policymakers, test designers, and practitioners in determining
appropriate accommodations for specific assessments and for
researchers in planning validity studies.
