This book crosses the boundary from exploration- and
production-related chemistry to refining, from upstream through
downstream. It discusses the composition of petroleum through the
use of "petroleum molecular composition continuity model." .
This book is a compilation of recent research on distributed
optimization algorithms for the integral load management of plug-in
electric vehicle (PEV) fleets and their potential services to the
electricity system. It also includes detailed developed Matlab
scripts. These algorithms can be implemented and extended to
diverse applications where energy management is required (smart
buildings, railways systems, task sharing in micro-grids, etc.).
The proposed methodologies optimally manage PEV fleets' charge and
discharge schedules by applying classical optimization, game
theory, and evolutionary game theory techniques. Taking owner's
requirements into consideration, these approaches provide services
like load shifting, load balancing among phases of the system,
reactive power supply, and task sharing among PEVs. The book is
intended for use in graduate optimization and energy management
courses, and readers are encouraged to test and adapt the scripts
to their specific applications.
Effective measurement of the composition and properties of
petroleum is essential for its exploration, production, and
refining; however, new technologies and methodologies are not
adequately documented in much of the current literature. Analytical
Methods in Petroleum Upstream Applications explores advances in the
analytical methods and instrumentation that allow more accurate
determination of the components, classes of compounds, properties,
and features of petroleum and its fractions. Recognized experts
explore a host of topics, including: A petroleum molecular
composition continuity model as a context for other analytical
measurements A modern modular sampling system for use in the lab or
the process area to collect and control samples for subsequent
analysis The importance of oil-in-water measurements and monitoring
The chemical and physical properties of heavy oils, their
fractions, and products from their upgrading Analytical
measurements using gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic
resonance (NMR) applications Asphaltene and heavy ends analysis
Chemometrics and modeling approaches for understanding petroleum
composition and properties to improve upstream, midstream, and
downstream operations Due to the renaissance of gas and oil
production in North America, interest has grown in analytical
methods for a wide range of applications. The understanding
provided in this text is designed to help chemists, geologists, and
chemical and petroleum engineers make more accurate estimates of
the crude value to specific refinery configurations, providing
insight into optimum development and extraction schemes.
Heavy crude oils and bitumen represent more than 50% of all
hydrocarbons available on the planet. These feedstocks have a low
amount of distillable material and high level of contaminants that
make their production, transportation, and refining difficult and
costly by conventional technologies. Subsurface Upgrading of Heavy
Crude Oils and Bitumen is of interest to the petroleum industry
mainly because of the advantages compared to aboveground
counterparts. The author presents an in-depth account and a
critical review of the progress of industry and academia in
underground or In-Situ upgrading of heavy, extra-heavy oils and
bitumen, as reported in the patent and open literature. This work
is aimed to be a standalone monograph, so three chapters are
dedicated to the composition of petroleum and fundamentals of crude
oil production and refining. Key Features: Offers a
multidisciplinary scope that will appeal to chemists, geologists,
biologists, chemical engineers, and petroleum engineers Presents
the advantages and disadvantages of the technologies considered
Discusses economic and environmental considerations for all the
routes evaluated and offers perspectives from experts in the field
working with highlighted technologies
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

This book brings together novel work on the semantics and
pragmatics of certain indefinite expressions that also convey
modality. These epistemic indefinites are determiners or pronouns
that signal ignorance on the part of the speaker, such as German
irgendein and Spanish algun: the sentence Maria se caso con algun
medico ('Maria married some doctor or other') both makes an
existential statement that there is a doctor that Maria married and
signals the speaker's inability or unwillingness to identify the
doctor in question. Although epistemic indefinites have featured in
recent semantic literature, a full understanding of the phenomenon
is still lacking: there is currently no agreement on the source of
their epistemic component; there is insufficient cross-linguistic
data to develop a semantic typology of these items; and the
parallelisms and differences between epistemic indefinites and
other expressions that convey epistemic modality have not been
explored in depth. In this volume, a team of experts in the field
offer novel empirical observations and important theoretical
insights on epistemic indefinites and related topics such as modal
free relatives, modified numerals, and epistemic modals. They
provide a coherent overview of the issues that shape the subject as
well as placing them in the context of current semantic research,
moving towards the development of a semantic typology of epistemic
indefinites that explores the place of these expressions within a
general typology of modal items.
Dance and the Hollywood Latina asks why every Latina star in
Hollywood history, from Dolores Del Rio in the 1920s to Jennifer
Lopez in the 2000s, began as a dancer or danced onscreen. While
cinematic depictions of women and minorities have seemingly
improved, a century of representing brown women as natural dancers
has popularized the notion that Latinas are inherently passionate
and promiscuous. Yet some Latina actresses became stars by
embracing and manipulating these stereotypical fantasies.
Introducing the concepts of ""inbetween-ness"" and ""racial
mobility"" to further illuminate how racialized sexuality and the
dancing female body operate in film, Priscilla Pena Ovalle focuses
on the careers of Dolores Del Rio, Rita Hayworth, Carmen Miranda,
Rita Moreno, and Jennifer Lopez. Dance and the Hollywood Latina
helps readers better understand how the United States grapples with
race, gender, and sexuality through dancing bodies on screen.
This book, which gathers the outcomes of the 9th International
Conference on Methodologies and Intelligent Systems for Technology
Enhanced Learning and its related workshops, expands on the topics
of the evidence-based TEL workshop series in order to provide an
open forum for discussing intelligent systems for TEL, their roots
in novel learning theories, empirical methodologies for their
design and evaluation, stand-alone solutions, and web-based ones.
The Conference was hosted by the University of Salamanca and was
held in Avila (Spain) from the 26th to the 28th of June 2019. Its
goal was to bring together researchers and developers from
industry, education, and the academic world to report on the latest
scientific research, technical advances, and methodologies. We wish
to thank the sponsors: IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Society,
Spain Section Chapter and the IEEE Spain Section (Technical
Co-Sponsor), IBM, Indra, Viewnext, Global Exchange, AEPIA, APPIA
and AIR institute.

This book serves two main purposes: firstly, it shows, in a simple
way, how the possible existence of an extra-spatial dimension would
affect the predictions of four-dimensional General Relativity, a
model known as the Brane world; secondly, it explains,
step-by-step, a new technique called Minimal Geometric Deformation,
which was introduced for the purpose of solving the correspondingly
modified Einstein field equations. This method gave rise to the
Gravitational Decoupling in General Relativity, which is widely
used to solve the Einstein field equations in various contexts.
This story brings to life a witty rendition of the political
struggles fought every December over something as humble and yet
powerful as the display of the Nativity Scene.
