The book presents the best articles presented by researchers,
academicians and industrial experts in the International Conference
on "Innovative Design and Development Practices in Aerospace and
Automotive Engineering (I-DAD 2016)". The book discusses new
concept designs, analysis and manufacturing technologies, where
more swing is for improved performance through specific and/or
multifunctional linguistic design aspects to downsize the system,
improve weight to strength ratio, fuel efficiency, better
operational capability at room and elevated temperatures, reduced
wear and tear, NVH aspects while balancing the challenges of beyond
Euro IV/Barat Stage IV emission norms, Greenhouse effects and
recyclable materials. The innovative methods discussed in the book
will serve as a reference material for educational and research
organizations, as well as industry, to take up challenging projects
of mutual interest.
This collection of comprehensive reviews describes the present
knowledge of the enzyme mechanisms involved in the biodegradation
of wood and wood components, cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin
by both fungi and bacteria. The extensive knowledge, presented in
this volume, was developed in laboratories world-wide over the last
few decades and constitutes the foundation for present and future
biotechnology in the pulp and paper industry.

Pulp and paper production has increased globally and will continue
to increase in the near future. Approximately 155 million tons of
wood pulp is produced worldwide and about 260 million is projected
for the year 2010. To be able to cope with increasing demand, an
increase in productivity and improved environmental performance is
needed as the industry is also under constant pressure to reduce
and modify environmental emissions to air and water. The authors
give updated information on various biotechnological processes
useful in the pulp and paper industry which could help in reducing
the environmental pollution problem, in addition to other benefits.
Various chapters deal with the latest developments in such areas as
raw material preparation, pulping, bleaching, water management,
waste treatment and utilization. The book also covers the
environmental regulations in various parts of the world as well as
the role of biotechnology in reducing environmental problems.

Biotechnology is the use of living organisms to enhance products,
our lives and our environment. It is a broad and complex discipline
that encompasses many specialised areas. The promise that
biotechnology holds for developing countries is well recognised and
it is an important tool that can be applied to diverse economic
sectors with a focus on the production of food crops, livestock
management, human health care, the chemical industry and
environmental management. This book covers applications of
biotechnology in selected areas such as health care, agriculture,
microbial systems, "in silico" analysis for drug designing and drug
discovery and the environment.
