This book is a practical guide to building computational models of
high-level cognitive processes and systems. High-level processes
are those central cognitive processes involved in thinking,
reasoning, planning, and so on. These processes appear to share
representational and processing requirements, and it is for this
reason that they are considered together in this text. The book is
divided into three parts. Part I considers foundational and
background issues. Part II provides a series of case studies
spanning a range of cognitive domains. Part III reflects upon
issues raised by the case studies. Teachers of cognitive modeling
may use material from Part I to structure lectures and practical
sessions, with chapters in Part II forming the basis of in-depth
student projects. All models discussed in this book are developed
within the COGENT environments. COGENT provides a graphical
interface in which models may be sketched as "box and arrow"
diagrams and is both a useful teaching tool and a productive
research tool. As such, this book is designed to be of use to both
students of cognitive modeling and active researchers. For
students, the book provides essential background material plus an
extensive set of example models, exercises and project material.
Researchers of both symbolic and connectionist persuasions will
find the book of interest for its approach to cognitive modeling,
which emphasizes methodological issues. They will also find that
the COGENT environment itself has much to offer.
The book draws on the history of economics, literary theory, and
the history of science to explore how European travelers like
Alexander von Humboldt and their readers, circa 1750-1850, adapted
the work of British political economists, such as Adam Smith, to
help organize their observations, and, in turn, how political
economists used travelers' observations in their own analyses.
Cooper examines journals, letters, books, art, and critical reviews
to cast in sharp relief questions raised about political economy by
contemporaries over the status of facts and evidence, whether its
principles admitted of universal application, and the determination
of wealth, value, and happiness in different societies. Travelers
citing T.R. Malthus's population principle blurred the gendered
boundaries between domestic economy and British political economy,
as embodied in the idealized subjects: domestic woman and economic
man. The book opens new realms in the histories of science in its
analyses of debates about gender in social scientific observation:
Maria Edgeworth, Maria Graham, and Harriet Martineau observe a role
associated with women and methodically interpret what they observe,
an act reserved, in theory, by men.
During the course of my quest for truth, knowledge and nature of
reality over the last 40 years or so, considerable valuable inner
knowledge has been opened to me from numerous and diverse sources,
knowledge which I have since been blessed to share with readers of
my books, newsletters and websites. When I recently discovered and
started to read Science of Being by The Baron Eugene Fersen,
originally made available to very few selected, privileged people
in the form of a series of twenty seven individual lessons, I knew
at once that these are no ordinary texts. It very soon became
apparent to me in fact that this is an extremely profound and
important collection of wisdom, knowledge and teachings, and
without doubt some of the very greatest I have personally ever seen
on these most important matters. Science of Being is not only one
of the very first texts on The Law of Attraction ever written, if
not the first, it is, in my view, one of the most profound and
important texts ever written in absolute terms, written by a true
Lightbearer for humanity, and which reach far beyond The Law of
Attraction to encompass many other Universal Principles.. It also
very soon became clear to me that many of the most well known Law
of Attraction and Metaphysics authors must, at least to some
extent, directly or indirectly have learned from this great teacher
of teachers. No other book ever published on The Law of Attraction
however goes as deeply or as clearly as Science of Being. It is now
my very great pleasure to make available to you this rare, once
almost lost collection of twenty seven lessons including exercises,
questions and answers in the form of a single powerful book, that
all who areblessed and most privileged to read it may profoundly
benefit from its valuable and indeed crucial teachings, your life
thus being blessed with health, abundance and happiness, as well as
further enhancing your own knowledge of the true nature of the
Universe, and the Universal Principles, including The Law of
Attraction, which infinitely shape our lives and reality. Adrian P.
Cooper. Author, Our Ultimate Reality, Life, the Universe and
Destiny of Mankind.
From Inclusion to Engagement challenges the ideologically driven
academic discourse that has come to dominate inclusive education by
presenting research-based knowledge about what actually works. *
Presents an innovative approach rooted in a biopsychosocial
theoretical perspective an approach that is still relatively
misunderstood within the educational sphere * Offers insights based
on an extensive review of contemporary international research in
the field * Avoids the biases of ideology in favour of
science-based social and educational outcomes * The first
comprehensive account of evidence-based interventions for students
with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties
The book presents a ground-breaking view of the navigational
landscape of the Nile in medieval Egypt by drawing on a broad range
of sources: medieval Arabic geographies; traveler accounts;
archaeology; and meteorological, hydrological, and geological
studies.
Its first major section charts the changing geography of the Nile
waterways, particularly in the Delta, from the eve of Islam to the
early modern period, and logs the "rise and fall" of these
waterways for natural and/or anthropogenic reasons. The book then
presents a new perspective on the Nile: it draws on traveler
accounts and environmental data to portray the river as a uniquely
challenging and sometimes dangerous navigational environment
requiring extensive local knowledge by skilled and hard-working
Nile navigators.
Finally, the book looks at how the main Delta and Red Sea ports of
medieval Egypt fitted into the navigational landscape described: it
explains how these ports were effected by changes occurring to the
navigational landscape, and how they reflected the navigational
conditions of the Nile and surrounding seas. The book is richly
illustrated with maps and images.

At first glance the Caribbean Basin seems to be a fairly peaceful,
even benign, region when compared to regions in Africa, the Middle
East or Europe. Closer analysis however, reveals a complex, and
dynamic grouping of nationalities, cultures, and languages and a
myriad of issues and challenges (economic, social and political)
that can have an effect on the security landscape of the United
States. Contrary to the characterization of benign unimportance,
the Caribbean Basin has the distinction of being the region that
has experienced the greatest number of U.S. military interventions:
37 since 1901. Much of U.S. foreign policy decisions relating to
the Caribbean is crisis oriented. However, there are significant
transnational threats that the U.S. must pay attention to, if it is
to avoid another Haiti or Cuba. Chapter 1 is an introduction.
Chapter 2 is a geopolitical overview and discussion of the region's
value to the United States. Chapter 3 is a historical perspective
on U.S. policy and interventions in the region since the Cold War.
Chapter 4 discusses three of the challenges to U.S. security
emanating from the region and postulates strategies for their
resolution. Chapter 5 is a summary of findings and the conclusion.
Sadly, my research results indicates that current administration
policy, as other administration policies of the past, still lack
the vision, strategic thinking and long range planning that will
maximize the opportunities for true stability in the region or
effectively resolve the challenges that may affect U.S.-Caribbean
relations.

"From the earliest days of thinking man, people the world over have
pondered the nature of the Universe, our planet, and of ourselves.
What does it all mean? Why am I here? What is the real purpose of
my life? What will happen to me after I die? Will I return once
again for another life on Earth?" So starts the first paragraph of
this book, summarising and encapsulating very succinctly both the
reason I was inspired to write Our Ultimate Reality and a concise
summary of the contents contained therein. As we approach the end
of a great age for humanity, increasingly more people from all
walks of what we know as "life" are asking what it all means for
them, for their families and for their future existence on this
planet we call "Earth." Our Ultimate Reality, Life, the Universe
and Destiny of Mankind is your complete reference and guide for
realising the Divine heritage of each and every one of us as equal
aspects of our Creator, a life of perfect happiness, health,
abundance, fulfilment and Spiritual evolution. This book has been
written in a modern, understandable, non-mystical way, setting out
in a concise, logical, easy to follow format, all you need to know
in order to understand, pursue and realise your own true potential
during this pivotally important era. I wish you every possible
success as you follow your own true destiny on the path of return
to our Divine Creator from Whom we came in the beginning, and wish
that this book will prove to be your valuable guide and companion.
