The role of energy in the modern world goes beyond mere technology
and economics to influence welfare, environment, life quality and,
broadly, civilisation. Since the industrial revolution, energy
conversion technology has been at the forefront of innovation
required to satisfy the needs of mankind. This technology more than
others has always been very dependent on the performance of the
materials used; especially over the last two decades during which
efficiency and environmental concerns have become challenging
objectives. In this context the European Commission has developed
significant collaborative programmes in Europe within the COST
framework, to enhance the state of the art in this technology. The
Li ge Conferences pursue the mission to report on the achievements
of these programmes in the light of progress made elsewhere. The
first four conferences in this series were held in 1978, 1982, 1986
and 1990, and provided the opportunity to present and review the
work of the European Materials Collaborative Programmes COST-50
(gas turbines), COST-505 (steam turbines) and COST- 501 (energy
conversion from fossil fuels). The proceedings of these conferences
were published by Applied Science Publishers (1978) and by D.
ReideIlKluwer Publishing Company (1982, 1986 and 1990). While the
first two Conferences have dealt essentially with high temperature
alloys for gas turbines (COST 50), the third and fourth Conferences
held in 1986 and 1990 were concerned with a broader range of
topics, including the work of the third round of COST-50
(1972-1983), that of COST-50l, which was initiated in 1981 and COST
505 (1983-1990).
Despite the extensive technical literature on forensic mental
health, there is a lack of practical guidebooks dedicated to
generating clear and persuasive forensic mental health reports.
Greenfield and Gottschalk present this practical handbook to

reports, contains multiple examples of full and partial reports,
and is organized in a user-friendly, "how-to" style to accomplish
its goal. The case overviews of full criminal reports, full civil
reports, and civil summaries cover important topics such as
domestic violence, malpractice, personal injury, malingering, and
more.

containing key terms, additional journals and periodicals, Internet
resources, and assessment tools
The definitive state-of-the-art resource on pediatric endoscopic
endonasal approaches Today, expanded endonasal approaches (EEA)
have revolutionized the surgical treatment paradigm for pediatric
central skull base lesions. Specially adapted micro-instruments
have been developed to permit passage through the narrow sinonasal
pathways in children, enabling access to the entire midline skull
base, from the crista galli to the cervico-medullary junction.
Pediatric Endoscopic Endonasal Skull Base Surgery by Harminder
Singh, Jeffrey Greenfield, Vijay Anand, and Theodore Schwartz is
the first textbook focused solely on endoscopic endonasal
management of cranial base pathologies in children. The book
reflects in-depth expertise from an extraordinary group of
international contributors from five continents, who share
extensive knowledge on this emerging field. Thirty chapters are
presented in three comprehensive sections. Key Features Core topics
including anatomy, rhinological and anesthetic considerations,
patient positioning and OR set-up, instrumentation, and endonasal
corridors and approaches Fifteen chapters detail endoscopic
treatment of a full spectrum of pediatric pathologies, such as
craniopharyngioma, meningoencephalocele, basilar invagination, and
benign and malignant tumors, among others Discussion of multiple
skull-base closure techniques, managing complications, and
neurosurgical and otolaryngological postoperative care Visually
rich, the succinct text is enhanced with more than 200 high-quality
surgical illustrations and intraoperative photographs, as well as
procedural videos This unique reference is essential reading for
neurosurgical and otolaryngology residents and fellows, as well as
veteran surgeons, nurse-practitioners, and physician-assistants who
treat and care for pediatric patients with skull-base conditions.

This unique, easy-to-read title offers a concise, practical guide
to psychopharmacology and psychopharmacotherapy. Designed for a
wide range of practitioners and trainees in general and mental
healthcare, this invaluable primer provides foundational
information for those who wish to cultivate a deeper understanding
of the often-mysterious psychopharmacology medication family.
Unlike other books on this topic, the primer positions
psychopharmacology within the larger context of psychiatric and
psychological treatment and also discusses the variety of
therapeutic and somatic techniques available to providers and their
patients. Further, since many patients with psychiatric conditions
unfortunately find themselves interacting with the justice system,
the author offers useful considerations related to the intersection
of mental health and the law. The primer consists of 13 chapters
and is organized in four parts: Part 1 covers essentials of
pharmacology and psychopharmacology, outlining the basic principles
of pharmacology, psychopharmacology, and psychopharmacotherapy.
Part 2 addresses therapies that may involve psychopharmacology/
psychopharmacotherapy, providing a succinct overview of selected
and representative types of psychotherapy and counseling in
contemporary psychiatry and psychology. Part 3 discusses forensic
and legal applications of psychopharmacology/
psychopharmacotherapy, drawing on the author's long experience in
various aspects of forensic psychiatry. Part 4 consists of one
final chapter, titled "Synthesis and Conclusions." This chapter
pulls together the most salient points of the book to assist the
reader in the practical psychopharmacotherapeutic treatment of
patients/clients. A timely and invaluable contribution to the
literature, Psychopharmacology for Non-Psychiatrists: A Primer will
be of great benefit as a user-friendly resource for professionals
or as an exam-preparation book for medical students and trainees in
a wide range of mental health fields. Specifically, the primer will
be of great interest to primary care physicians, nurse
practitioners, physician assistants, counselors, therapists,
non-psychiatric physicians and dentists whose practices involve
psychopharmacotherapy, naturopaths, homeopaths, physical
therapists, occupational therapists, and speech/language
therapists. Legal professionals and others who are not themselves
healthcare professionals, but who interact with healthcare
professionals, also will find the primer a handy resource.
This unique title is designed to illustrate and foster how a closer
working relationship between pediatricians and subspecialists can
make childhood medicine work more seamlessly. Despite the common
lack of training for pediatricians in pediatric neurosurgery, they
are challenged almost daily with caring for children with
neurologic conditions. Common Neurological Conditions in the
Pediatric Practice is replete with a wide range of instructional
case vignettes and is organized into sections that loosely
approximate the neurologic development of a child and address
issues that are commonly encountered. The first section reviews
neurologic development and birth related trauma commonly seen in
the neonatal intensive care unit. The second part addresses
findings commonly encountered by a pediatrician in a child's first
month of life. The third section is a comprehensive review of
hydrocephalus. Part four describes state of the art imaging
techniques for the central nervous system in children, from
pre-natal ultrasound through MRI and CT; and the fifth part
consists of individual explorations of common neurosurgical
conditions that many pediatricians are uncomfortable managing,
including brain tumors, spasticity, and vascular lesions to use as
a reference tool when caring for a complex neurosurgical patient.
Finally a series of chapters related to head trauma, including
sections on non-accidental trauma and concussion management,
completes the text.
Imbued with humility, humanity, and humor, A Practical Guide to
Forensic Mental Health Consultation through Aphorisms and Caveats
equips future and practicing forensic mental health consultants
with valuable insights "from the trenches." The book employs pithy
observations, conditions, and limitations to the process, as well
as covering the challenges and opportunities intrinsic to a
forensic mental health consulting practice. The nine chapters of
the book follow the flow of the consulting forensic mental health
process. The chapters feature a collection of aphorisms and caveats
that frame and complement the discussion of each step in the
process, from engaging with a potential consultee to preparing an
effective report to testifying in court to collecting professional
fees. Presented in a succinct and approachable way, the book is
designed to help professionals avoid some of the inevitable
pitfalls and land mines that might occur in a forensic mental
health consulting practice. Brief, valuable, and minimally
technical, A Practical Guide to Forensic Mental Health Consultation
through Aphorisms and Caveats is an ideal resource for new and
experienced forensic experts alike.
An excellent reference for primary care pediatricians and other
health care professionals who treat a wide range of urological
