Longlisted for the Highland Book Prize 2021 In 1995 the National
Trust for Scotland acquired Mar Lodge Estate in the heart of the
Cairngorms. Home to over 5,000 species, this vast expanse of
Caledonian woodlands, subarctic mountains, bogs, moors, roaring
burns and frozen lochs could be a place where environmental
conservation and Highland field sports would exist in harmony. The
only problem was that due to centuries of abuse by human hands, the
ancient Caledonian pinewoods were dying, and it would take radical
measures to save them. After 25 years of extremely hard work, the
pinewoods, bogs, moors and mountains are returning to their former
glory. Regeneration is the story of this success, featuring not
only the people who are protecting the land and quietly working to
undo the wrongs of the past, but also the myriad creatures which
inspire them to do so. In addition, it also tackles current
controversies such as raptor persecution, deer management and
rewilding and asks bigger questions about the nature of
conservation itself: what do we see when we look at our wild
places? What should we see?

This book examines how safety failings during the use of any
designed product or system-be it a car, a building, or a chemical
plant-can be mitigated through effective understanding of the
conditions and controls surrounding its use. Drawing on historical
failures and their own real-world experience, Dr Andy Painting and
David England explain how corporate culture, engineering safety,
personnel selection, and proper safety auditing are key ingredients
to maintaining safety in all aspects of an organization's
operations. This effective strategy is also crucial to linking back
to the design of future products in establishing where operational
failures have been identified and can therefore be "designed out"
in future iterations. The book challenges silo thinking among the
various safety-related disciplines and shows how this can be
counter-productive to effective safety management. Effectively
Managing the Case for Safety draws on key features from
engineering, design, and health and safety processes, which, when
used cohesively, promote a better working environment for everyone
and help to reduce wasted time, money, and effort for any
organization. Safety is tracked from the initial design stage
through any product's entire service life and includes evidence of
how safety affects, and is affected by, all those who interact with
a product, system, or project. Following their first book, An
Effective Strategy for Safe Design in Engineering and Construction,
which demonstrated how current construction regulations can be used
as a framework to ensure that safety is embedded into the design of
virtually any product from machinery to buildings, this follow up
book defines what safe is, how it is initially derived, and how the
operational safety of any product, during its in-use phase, can be
managed and assessed. The result is not only to ensure compliance
with relevant regulations but also to actively ensure the ongoing
safety of all those who interact with a product or project.

'Ask me to paint anything you wish and I will try no matter how
specific or surreal your demands. You name it. I'll paint it. On
Paint.' Jim has painted some truly unhinged requests - from 'Kanye
West giving birth to himself' and 'Ross Kemp on toast' to 'A swan
wearing Bjoerk as a dress' and 'Bill Oddie beating Hitler at
Catchphrase' - each brought to life with painstaking detail using
nothing but an archaic version of Microsoft Paint and an optical
mouse. Many have since become beloved icons of British internet
culture, such as 'The chestburster scene from Alien portrayed by
famous TV puppets' and the infamous 'Tory Squat Party'. Of Mouse
and Man is the very best of Jim's first five years of work
alongside never-before-seen material and unique insights into his
creative process.
What will the world will be like in a year’s time? What changes
will we have seen, what global events will be fresh in our
thoughts? What highs and lows will we have encountered, what
surprises will we have had that bring unexpected joy? And in the
midst of all those things, how will we make sense of it all?
That’s where Fresh from The Word comes in! This edition tells the
whole story of the Bible, so we have a framework in which to better
understand each part. In addition, readings through 1 Chronicles
culminate with Solomon building the Temple, and those in Mark and
Luke show us how the Master Builder came and lived amongst us. We
see how God began to build his church, looking at leaders in the
New Testament, and how Paul encouraged one of those leaders as we
read his letters to Timothy. And when the building gets broken, we
study how to be reconciled, with Nehemiah offering a worked example
of how God uses his people to rebuild. Finally, the Song of Solomon
reveals the aim of it all – intimate, loving relationship with
God himself. Fresh from The Word 2024 aims to help us build the
discipline of Bible reading into our lives so we are grounded in
God's word and our faith may deepen and develop. By offering
accessible and engaging material, it aids our understanding of the
Bible and helps us understand it from different Christian
perspectives.
Fresh from the Word 2023 aims to help us build the discipline of
Bible reading into our lives so we are grounded in God's word and
our faith may deepen and develop. By offering accessible and
engaging material, it aids our understanding of the Bible and helps
us understand it from different Christian perspectives. One of the
key themes in this year's edition is 'Hidden Heroes &
Heroines', characters in the Bible who are overlooked but play a
pivotal role in the unfolding of the Kingdom. As we read their
stories, we may be encouraged that our lives, though they sometimes
feel insignificant, are indeed being used by God in ways possibly
beyond our imagining! The book also explores the different types of
literature in the Bible. A number of the international and diverse
community of writers who have contributed their wisdom,
understanding and hard-won insights to encourage and bless us,
unpack passages written in each particular style. And so we learn
how we might safely interpret poetry, law, prophecy, narrative or
apocalyptic. The hope is that these reflections - and indeed the
complete volume - will will help us see revealed that which was
previously hidden from us. Contributors this year include: Terry
Lester, who writes on the Judges of Israel. Terry has been an
Anglican priest in Cape Town for almost four decades and currently
serves in Constantia. A vocal advocate for justice, he is engaged
in projects aimed at restoring dignity and building reconciliation
in his fragmented community. Immaculee Hedden, who writes on
Healing Divisions in the Old Testament. She and her husband Richard
are the authors of Under His Mighty Hand, the story of how she
survived the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The couple are
currently based in Rwanda, serving in healing and counselling
support ministry with YWAM. Jane Gonzalez, who writes on
Celebrations. Jane is a Roman Catholic laywoman and an active
member of the Justice and Peace Group. Joshua Taylor, who writes on
The God of all Comfort and Mercy. Joshua is an Anglican Priest in
New Zealand, where he and his family have been exploring what it
means to be a family following the way of Jesus. Louise Jones, who
writes on Lord of the Sabbath. Working for an embedded,
community-based organization (Newbigin Community Trust), Louise has
a passion for empowering, resourcing and loving those who have
slipped through the cracks of our systems, in order to help people
see their immense value and worth in Jesus.
Fresh from the Word 2022 offers 365 sets of note, prayers and
actions on biblical themes and helps build understanding and
respect for different Christian perspectives by offering a range of
biblical interpretations. Each writer brings their own experience
of God and His Word, refined through the reality of the worldwide
pandemic, to shed new light on familiar themes, including: * facing
despair and fear * being Church, * living with pain whilst
sustained by hope * how we regard the stranger * how we love our
neighbour Enjoyed individually and in groups, this is a great for
anyone looking for guidance to help their bible reading and
understanding.
