Intended for development planners and administrators, energy
planners, environmentalists, foresters and conservationists, this
book provides a survey of the current, and likely future extent of,
biomass energy shortages in Sri Lanka and seeks to identify the
most appropriate means by which these might be addressed. Biomass
accounts for roughly two-thirds of Sri Lanka's primary energy
consumption, and long-term supply capability is being undermined by
a fast and accelerating rate of deforestation. The book draws out
the lessons to be learned in other parts of the world from Sri
Lanka's experience.
