In 1946, Paramahansa Yogananda (January 5, 1893-March 7, 1952),
published his life story, Autobiography of a Yogi, which introduced
many westerners to meditation and yoga. It has since been
translated into 25 languages, and the various editions published
since its inception have sold over a million copies worldwide. The
book describes Yogananda's search for a guru, and his encounters
with leading spiritual figures such as Therese Neumann, the Hindu
saint Sri Anandamoyi Ma, Mohandas Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore,
Nobel Prize-winning physicist Sir C. V. Raman, and noted American
plant scientist Luther Burbank, to whom it is dedicated. Amelita
Galli-Curci, one of the most famous opera singers of the early
twentieth century, said about the book: Amazing, true stories of
saints and masters of India, blended with priceless superphysical
information-much needed to balance the Western material efficiency
with Eastern spiritual efficiency-come from the vigorous pen of
Paramhansa Yogananda, whose teachings my husband and myself have
had the pleasure of studying for twenty years.
To bridge the gap between Eastern wisdom and Western mind-set, the
Yogic Master Yogananda started a magazine called East-West in the
1920s in which he poured forth his inspirational writings. This
volume contains some of the articles originally published between
1925 to 1930 as they appeared in the magazine. These articles
continue to have relevance to spiritual seekers today. A few of the
articles are concerning events of almost 90 years ago, but the
messages are timeless. This is the third volume in the collection
of Paramhansa Yogananda's unedited, original works. The first two
are "Essence of Kriya Yoga" and "Practical Meditations."The author
is one of the most influential figures to bring Eastern wisdom to
the West and continue to have a large following at the present
time.
Most people would want to meditate if they understood how to do so.
The purpose of meditation is to know God, to convert the little joy
of the soul with the vast joy of the spirit. In this volume of the
collected works of the spiritual Master Paramhansa Yogananda are
three complete works in which he has explained and given lessons on
the practical aspects of meditation, as well as given actual
meditations which are of practical help to everyone. The three
works are: Metaphysical Meditations, Whispers from Eternity, and
Super Advanced Course 1. Yogananda was one of the first Masters
from India to stay and teach in the United States. He taught
extensively and traveled throughout the country from 1920 when he
arrived until his passing in 1952. His influence is still strong
among all sincere spiritual seekers because of his masterpiece, The
Autobiography of a Yogi. In this volume, the spiritual dynamo
Yogananda has given the keys to happiness and bliss in this life.
