R208 Discovery Miles 2 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The first-draft Alien screenplay by William Gibson, the founder of cyberpunk, turned into a novel by Pat Cadigan, the Hugo Award-Winning "Queen of Cyberpunk." Winner of the Scribe Award for best adapted novel. The Sulaco-on its return journey from LV-426-enters a sector controlled by the "Union of Progressive Peoples," a nation-state engaged in an ongoing cold war and arms race. U.P.P. personnel board the Sulaco and find hypersleep tubes with Ripley, Newt, and an injured Hicks. A Facehugger attacks the lead commando, and the others narrowly escape, taking what remains of Bishop with them. The Sulaco continues to Anchorpoint, a space station and military installation the size of a small moon, where it falls under control of the military's Weapons Division. Boarding the Sulaco, a team of Colonial Marines and scientists is assaulted by a pair of Xenomorph drones. In the fight Ripley's cryotube is badly damaged. It's taken aboard Anchorpoint, where Ripley is kept comatose. Newt and an injured Corporal Hicks are awakened, and Newt is sent to Gateway Station on the way to Earth. The U.P.P. sends Bishop to Anchorpoint, where Hicks begins to hear rumors of experimentation-the cloning and genetic modification of Xenomorphs. The kind of experimentation that could yield a monstrous hybrid, and perhaps even a Queen. ALIEN 3 TM & (c) Twentieth Century Films. All rights reserved.

Your memories could be worth money. Your memories could be worth selling. Your memories could be worth your life. Synners are synthesizers - not machines, but people. They take images from the brains of performers, and turn them into a form which can be packaged, sold and consumed. This book is set in a world where new technology spawns new crime before it hits the streets. In SYNNERS the line between technology and humanity is hopelessly slim; the human mind and the external landscape have fused to the point where any encounter with reality is incidental. A classic novel from one of the founders and mainstays of the cyberpunk movement. Readers are astounded by SYNNERS: 'A masterpiece that deserves its place in the "SF Masterworks" series'- Goodreads reviewer, 'Stone-home great! Cadigan is yet another example that puts pay to the lie of sci-fi being a somehow inherently shallow genre' - Goodreads reviewer, 'This novel has really everything I want when reading SF: mind-blowing technology, non-utopia setting, and 'real' personal characters' - Goodreads reviewer, 'A masterpiece of Cyberpunk . . . Synners is science fiction at its best: innovative, stirring, and not always easy to figure out but always poignantly thought provoking' - Goodreads reviewer, 'It's genius, and a mess and incredibly ground-breaking and seriously, should be considered a science fiction classic . . . Question any list of "great/classic SF" that doesn't include this book' - Goodreads reviewer, 'Loved this book so much I wrote my master's dissertation on it' - Goodreads reviewer,

Welcome to the Best of the Masterworks: a selection of the finest in science fiction - What does it mean to be human when you're part of the machine? Synners are synthesizers - not machines, but people. They take images from the brains of performers, and turn them into a form which can be packaged, sold and consumed. They don't use the net, they are the net. Everything is automated. Everything is synthetic. But when the technology starts to fail, the terrifying question remains: what is a human? Winner of the 1992 Arthur C. Clarke Award, Synners was Pat Cadigan's early stories, and cemented her place in the core of the cyberpunk movement, and has even inspired academic works. Lauded for her complex characters and plots, and seen as a stalwart of feminist SF, Cadigan has gone on to win another Clarke and a Hugo for subsequent works. - 'Racingly told, linguistically acute, simultaneously pell-mell and precise in its detailing' - The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction 'Ambitious, brilliantly executed . . . Cadigan is a major talent' - William Gibson 'Pat Cadigan is the undisputed Queen of Cyberpunk' - The Fantasy Hive
