A first-world Bostonian, Julia Chilton Brewer is madly in love with
William Brewer, a PhD candidate in art history fascinated with
primitive artifacts and Africa. On the evening of their wedding,
Julia and William set forth to Owerri, West Africa, beginning a
great adventure together.
As the newlyweds settle into their house in Owerri, William
immerses himself in his work researching local artifacts as Julia
helps the third-world women develop cottage industries and, through
her Bostonian associates, becomes a partner in creating a
cyberspace cafe. Meanwhile, with the local women guiding her, Julia
is introduced to traditional rituals and witnesses the African
women honoring the sacredness of Mamy Wata, their African diviner
depicted in sculpture form. When Mamy Wata becomes a target of art
thieves, the women begin an investigation to uncover the identity
of the smugglers and soon discover problems that will impact all of
their lives-and especially Julia's marriage.
As Julia is suddenly propelled into a journey that transports
her between two worlds filled with intrigue, treachery, and
betrayal, Mamy Wata may be the only force that can deliver a new
consciousness to everyone.

This vibrant catalogue presents the work of contemporary artist
Harmonia Rosales. Featuring over twenty paintings and a monumental
sculptural installation, Harmonia Rosales: Master Narrative is the
artist’s first major touring exhibition and first scholarly
catalogue of her work. Los Angeles-based artist Harmonia Rosales
(b. Chicago, 1984) rewrites the canon, or the master narrative of
art history, from the perspective of an Afro-Cuban American woman
in the twenty-first century. Her canvases seamlessly weave the
tales and characters rooted in West African Yorùbá religion,
Greek mythology, and Christianity with the canonical works and
artistic techniques of the European Renaissance. Through her visual
storytelling, Rosales presents the notion of human and cultural
survival on her own terms – one that highlights the beauty and
strength of Black people, particularly women, while touching upon
grand narratives of creation, tragedy, survival and transcendence.
This beautifully illustrated publication includes a catalogue of
works in the exhibition, a biography of the artist and new essays
by noted scholars in their fields. These essays explore themes
ranging from storytelling and narrative to gender and depiction of
beauty to race and diaspora.
This book focuses on the consequences of internal conflict for
electoral competition and demonstrates why the Social Democratic
Party (SDP), in alliance with the Liberals, "lost from the inside"
during two general election campaigns in Great Britain.
Renaissance bodies, dressed and undressed, have not lacked
attention in art historical literature, but scholarship on the male
body has generally concentrated on phallic-oriented masculinity and
been connected to issues of patriarchy and power. This original
book examines the range of meaning that has been attached to the
male backside in Renaissance art and culture, the transformation of
the base connotation of the image to high art, and the question of
homoerotic impulses or implications of admiring male figures from
behind. Representations of the male body's behind have often been
associated with things obscene, carnivalesque, comical, or
villainous. Presenting serious scholarship with a deft hand, Seen
from Behind expands our understanding of the motif of the male
buttocks in Renaissance art, revealing both continuities and
changes in the ways the images convey meaning and have been given
meaning.
Companion website: www.oup.com/LeesLaws3e An easy to follow guide
and referencer which contains all the technical information needed
in sexual offences cases. The law in this area has expanded greatly
in recent decades; many 'historic' cases are currently tried under
the law existing at the time the offence was committed (and, if the
abuse was lengthy, this will often straddle several pieces of
legislation). Current editions of legal textbooks do not include
the old laws that these historic cases fall under, so practitioners
have to resort to a mix of old editions and new. This book sets out
the correct indictments and sentencing provisions for the different
sexual offences dating back to 1943, to cover all cases which might
be prosecuted. Anyone looking up a particular offence will find all
the necessary technical information in one place. Each chapter sets
out an offence (giving its historic and current description) and
all that relates to it in terms of indictments and sentence,
including current sentencing guidelines and relevant case law. The
book also includes model indictments; timelines; the latest
material from the Sentencing Council; the Notification Requirements
as they have been amended; and specified offences under the
Criminal Justice Act 2003. This product includes a copy of the
paperback and a digital version available on PC, Mac, Android
devices, iPad, or iPhone for quick and easy access wherever you
are.

The KM Cookbook serves up a menu of success stories and strategies
for organizations wanting to know more about Knowledge Management
Standard ISO30401 – whether they intend to pursue certification,
or simply seek to use it as a framework to review their existing
programme and strategy. Knowledge Management (KM) has been around
for over 20 years as a set of tools and methods for connecting,
collecting and creating knowledge. Lots has been written, and there
are tens of thousands of practitioners out there—in-company
specialists and consultants. Unlike Lean, Agile and other business
improvement methodologies, KM has never had a single agreed set of
tools, or a commercial accreditation or standard. Attending a KM
conference can feel a bit like visiting an international street
food market! In many ways, the arrival of an internationally agreed
standard and vocabulary, imbues fresh professional credibility to
the field of Knowledge Management.
