This book examines the interplay between the national and the European levels in EU foreign policymaking, focusing on the Middle East.

European engagement in peacemaking in the Middle East dates back to foreign-policy cooperation in the early 1970s. Following the launch of the peace process in 1991, the EU and its Member States further stepped up their involvement in conflict resolution, focusing on one central area of EU engagement the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This book covers the period from the beginning of the peace process in 1991 until 2008, and focuses on the actions of the big three Member States: Germany, France and the UK.

Using the Europeanization concept as framework of analysis, the book examines the problematic dynamics between these Member States national foreign-policy models and the construction of a common European conflict-resolution policy. It also provides interesting new insights into the EU 's international role and potential, addressing the often neglected question of how Europeanization effects help to mitigate some of the classical limitations of European foreign policymaking.

This collection of essays studies the expression and diffusion of radical ideas in Britain from the period of the English Revolution in the mid-seventeenth century to the Romantic Revolution in the early nineteenth century. The essays included in the volume explore the modes of articulation and dissemination of radical ideas in the period by focusing on actors ('radical voices') and a variety of written texts and cultural practices ('radical ways'), ranging from fiction, correspondence, pamphlets and newspapers to petitions presented to Parliament and toasts raised in public. The relationship between Latitudinarian moral theology and eighteenth-century literature has been much debated among scholars. However, this issue can only be tackled if the exact objectives of the Latitudinarians' moral theology are clearly delineated. In doing so, Patrick Muller unveils the intricate connection between the didactic bias of Latitudinarianism and the resurgent interest in didactic literary genres in the first half of the eighteenth century. His study sheds new light on the complex and contradictory reception of the Latitudinarians' controversial theses in the work of three of the major eighteenth-century novelists: Henry Fielding, Laurence Sterne, and Oliver Goldsmith.

Diese Arbeit beschaftigt sich mit der Frage, ob und inwieweit die Vorstandsvergutung innerhalb einer faktisch abhangigen AG an der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung der Muttergesellschaft ausgerichtet werden kann. Hierzu wird zunachst ein UEberblick uber die verschiedenen praxisrelevanten Vergutungsmodelle verschafft. This creates a whole series of challenges for municipalities, as well as citizens, such as overcrowded traffic routes, limited building space and an increasingly difficult supply situation. With this book we want to answer the following question: How can people live in densely populated areas and meet their needs in terms of mobility, freedom, self-determination, security, prosperity, communication or in other words: how can metropolitan regions be made humane? Jahrhunderts. Er ist der meist geliebte und zugleich meist geschmahte deutsche Dichter judischer Herkunft. Heine war zugleich Romantiker und Poet, Politiker und Ironiker, Jude und Deutscher, Europaer und Emigrant. Durch die farbige Mischung von poetischem Genie und journalistischer Begabung galt und gilt er heute noch als geistreicher Spotter. Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg und dem Holocaust an den europaischen Juden wurde sein Werk in den beiden deutschen Staaten sehr unterschiedlich rezipiert.i Wahrend man im Westen noch stark mit Vorurteilen gegen Heine zu kampfen hatte, wurde er im Osten sehr viel mehr verehrt, jedoch nicht ohne stellenweise ideologisch ausgeschlachtet zu werden. Mittlerweile hat sich in der Heine-Rezeption vieles zum Positiven gewandelt. Einen Hohepunkt an Publikationen - auch didaktischer - und Offentlichkeit verursachte das Heine-Jahr 1997. So konnte auch in den Schulen um dieses Datum das Interesse an diesem bedeutenden deutschen Schriftsteller erhoht werden. In dieser Arbeit soll versucht werden, die methodischen und didaktischen Voruberlegungen zu leisten, die notig sind, um Heines Verhaltnis zum Judentum zum Gegenstand eines thematischen Literaturunterrichts in der Ober- und Kollegstufe zu machen. Da dieses Thema einen ganz bestimmten Aspekt aus Heines Leben behandelt, und Reflexe seiner Auseinandersetzung mit Religion und vor allem mit dem Judentum in seinem Werk zu erkennen sind, mussen den Schulern Zusatzinformationen geboten werden. Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Otto-Friedrich-Universitat Bamberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die deutsche Klassik - oder genauer gesagt: die Weimarer Klassik - ist gemeinhin mehr oder weniger ausschliesslich mit den Namen der beiden grossen Dioskuren der deutschen Literatur verbunden. Warum es fur andere Dichter uberaus schwierig war, in den klassischen Olymp aufgenommen zu werden, hat seinen Hauptgrund wohl darin, dass sich Goethe und Schiller zur Richtinstanz dessen stilisierten, was als klassische Dichtung zu gelten hatte, und was nicht. Ihre Urteile haben sich im kollektiven Gedachtnis der Germanistik nur schwer relativieren lassen. Vor allem traf dieses Schicksal diejenigen literarischen Phanomene, die sich so gar nicht einer der gangigen Stromungen zuordnen lassen wollten und wollen. Eines von ihnen ist Johann Paul Friedrich Richter. Von etlichen Literaturgeschichten wird er in der Rubrik zwischen Klassik und Romantik" gefuhrt oder auch als Gegenklassiker bezeichnet. Vor allem, ob und wieweit letztere Einschatzung eine tragfahige Argumentationsbasis aufweist, soll Reflexionsgegenstand dieser Arbeit sein. Es soll also darum gehen eine gewisse Polaritat zwischen Jean Paul und der Weimarer Klassik - vor allem reprasentiert in der Person und im Werk Goethes - herauszuarbeiten. Da diese Polaritat in erster Linie die Kunstauffassung betrifft, wird neben einer Darstellung wichtiger historisch-biographischer Begebenheiten, die das Verhaltnis beider Dichter vergegenwartigen konnen, vor allem auch die Konfrontation der beiden in ihren Texten ins Auge gefasst werden mussen. Jean Paul empfand zweifellos grosse Bewunderung fur Goethe, und die extreme Polarisierung der beiden ist sicherlich grossenteils als Rezeptionsphanomen zu verstehen. Dennoch ist Goethe an dieser Einschatzung nicht unschuldig, finden sich doch bei ihm einige deutliche Seitenhiebe auf das dichterische Schaffen und die Person Richters
