for SSA and organ or piano Paul Drayton's setting of three stanzas
from Laurence Binyon's poem 'For the Fallen' is poignant,
dignified, and atmospheric. A serene and expressive refrain for
unison voices (which the congregation may join in if desired) is
interposed between evocatively turbulent passages for SSA choir.
The accompaniment should ideally be played on the organ, but may be
performed on the piano if organ is not available. Also available in
a version for mixed voices.
for violin and mixed choir This innovative and imaginative choral
arrangement of The Lark Ascending has the original solo violin part
accompanied by mixed choir. It sensitively sets George Meredith's
poem (on which the original orchestration is based) and combines
this with wordless vocal lines and vocal solos, preserving the
texture and timeless effect of the original. Commissioned and
premiered by the Swedish Chamber Choir, the work has also been
recorded by the choir under the direction of Simon Phipps.
for SATB and organ/piano with optional congregation Paul Drayton's
setting of three stanzas from Laurence Binyon's poem 'For the
Fallen' is poignant, dignified, and atmospheric. A serene and
expressive refrain for unison voices (which the congregation may
join in if desired) is interposed between evocatively turbulent
passages for SATB choir. The accompaniment should ideally be played
on the organ, but may be performed on the piano if organ is not
available.
for SATB and organ The World's Desire was commissioned by the Choir
of Truro Cathedral for their service of Nine Lessons and Carols in
December 2008, to be performed after the eighth lesson. Setting a
text by G. K. Chesterton, it is highly original yet approachable,
and develops the opening melodic motif to provide a sense of
cohesion throughout the piece.
An entertaining mix of dinosaur pieces, games, and puzzles at about
the level of Piano Time 2. Lively full colour illustrations
introduce you to each of the friendly (or not-so-friendly)
monsters, and all the material has a solid musical and tutorial
basis as well as being tremendous fun.
Acts as a bridge between Tunes for Ten Fingers and More Tunes for
Ten Fingers, and consists of 21 pieces in five-finger position.
This work is accompanied by verses and illustrations and there are
lots of puzzles and games interspersed amongst the pieces.
Unheard Melodies presents a straightforward but unusual guide to
musical appreciation, and is of particular help to the
non-specialist in coming to terms with the complexities of
classical music. The raw materials, styles and processes of music
are introduced and explained, together with inside information
about instruments and the lives of composers, not to mention the
many hidden puzzles and ciphers accessible to those with the
necessary key. A must for anyone interested in understanding the
real substance of music. There is a world of unheard melodies out
there for the hearing, so why not make a fascinating journey into
less familiar musical byways and discover new ways of listening to
the music you thought you knew.
