Curriculum for Wales: History for 11-14 years (Paperback): Rob Quinn, R.Paul Evans Curriculum for Wales: History for 11-14 years (Paperback)
Rob Quinn, R.Paul Evans
R1,126 Discovery Miles 11 260 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

Tell the story of Wales over the last 1000 years, as you discover how Welsh history, cynefin, culture and language are connected, from the past to the present. Underpinned by the four purposes of the new Curriculum for Wales, this book empowers pupils with the knowledge and skills that they need for learning, life and work. > Design a curriculum that is unique to your school. Use the content flexibly to craft a historical education that reflects your pupils and your local area, as well as covering 'What matters' statements within the Humanities AoLE. > Follow an enquiry-based approach. Starting in early medieval times, this book establishes a strong chronological spine, with later enquiries looking at changes in Wales thematically. > Develop analytical and evaluative skills. A wide range of sources and interpretations encourage pupils to think like historians, using evidence to consider change and continuity, cause and consequence. > Put progression at the heart of the curriculum. End-of-topic Activities build towards more in-depth end-of-enquiry Review and Research tasks. All activities and tasks enable each pupil to move through their individual learning journey towards their next 'Progression step'. > Explore the rich history of Wales and the global context. Understanding events and issues in Wales and the wider world - and the development of Wales as a multicultural society - will help pupils to become ethical, informed citizens.

Essays on the History of Parliamentary Procedure - In Honour of Thomas Erskine May (Hardcover): Paul Evans Essays on the History of Parliamentary Procedure - In Honour of Thomas Erskine May (Hardcover)
Paul Evans
R4,330 Discovery Miles 43 300 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

8 February 2015 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Erskine May. May is the most famous of the fifty holders of the office of Clerk of the House of Commons. His continued renown arises from his Treatise upon the Law, Privileges, Proceedings and Usage of Parliament, first published in 1844 and with its 25th edition currently in preparation. It is known throughout those parts of the world that model their constitutional arrangements on Westminster as the 'Bible of Parliamentary Procedure'. This volume celebrates both the man and his book. Bringing together current and former Clerks in the House of Commons and outside experts, the contributors analyse May's profound contribution to the shaping of the modern House of Commons, as it made the transition from the pre-Reform Act House to the modern core of the UK's constitutional democracy in his lifetime. This is perhaps best symbolised by its enforced transition between 1834 and 1851 from a mediaeval slum to the World Heritage Palace of Westminster, which is the most iconic building in the UK. The book also considers the wider context of parliamentary law and procedure, both before and after May's time. It constitutes the first sustained analysis of the development of parliamentary procedure in over half a century, attempting to situate the reforms in the way the central institution of our democracy conducts itself in the political contexts which drove those changes.

Idaho (Paperback): Paul Evan Lehman Idaho (Paperback)
Paul Evan Lehman
R394 Discovery Miles 3 940 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

After many years on the range, a cool fighter who calls himself Idaho rides back to the country where he was raised. Unrecognized by the friends and foes of his childhood, Idaho finds himself in the midst of a roaring scrap between two proud ranchmen and he finds his loyalty split on both sides of the feud. A quick shooter but a quicker thinker, a leader and fighter who never reckons his own safety, Idaho aims to restore justice and peace to the warring ranches. His resolve to win the respect of a father who abandoned him, his desire to protect his greatest benefactor, and his yearning to secure the love of his childhood friend Nancy, force him in the center of the conflict, even as he wrestles with his own inner turmoil. Even as Idaho struggles to determine where to stand in the conflict, he stands up against crookedness and foul play from all sides His shrewd plans for recapturing fence wire and a stolen stream, his hair-trigger action to save lives in tough spots, his fairness and human sympathy it is his courage and calm in hot situations that prove him a hero fit to make the cattle country proud. In the midst of battle blazing with six-guns, rifles, dynamite, fire, and the whole arsenal of hatred and violence, Idaho s divided allegiance may be the only thing that can save the clashing ranchers from each other and from themselves."

Texas Men (Paperback): Paul Evan Lehman Texas Men (Paperback)
Paul Evan Lehman
R363 Discovery Miles 3 630 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

It makes a lot of difference who is the sheriff in the town of Lariat. When Grubb was sheriff, Kurt Dodd and his men ran wild. Cattle rustling was a business to them, and they went about it in a business-like fashion. Save for the valor and alertness of Bob Lee and his Texas men, they d have wiped out the whole Tomlinson outfit. When Bob Lee becomes sheriff, the war on the rustlers begins in earnest. Bob is elected to the tune of barking six-guns, and after his election the gunfire only increases, as Kurt Dodd s gang try to drop him dead. In the fights for his life and for the safety of cattlemen, the only man Bob wants at his back is Dick Markley. Dick chooses a job that offers better money than sheriff s deputy, improving his chances to win the hand of one Miss June Tomlinson, leaving Bob to fight off Dodd s men without his help. Bob is faced with some difficult decisions: between love and friendship, friendship and his job, his life and his personal sense of justice; Bob will make choices that ll forever alter his destiny."

Pieter agrees, and soon finds himself living in the midst of one of the biggest social and cultural revolutions of our time, working as a tour operator ... with a sideline in contraband.
