Nur so viel scheint zur Einleitung oder Vorerlnnerung notig zu sein, dass es zwei Stamme der menschlichen Erkenntnis gebe, die vielleicht aus einer gemeinschaftlichen, aber uns unbekannten Wurzel entspringen, namliCh Sinnlicbkeit und Verstand, durch deren ersteren uns Gegenstande gegeben, durch den zweiten aber gedacht werden. Es bedarf wohl nicht einmal des Hinweises auf das Motto oder gar einer ausfuhrlichen Begrundung, um sich daruber klar zu werden, dass die Frage nach dem Wesen des Den kens und seiner Beziehung zur Anschauung auch fur die Philo sophie von grosser Wichtigkeit ist; und man hat nur zu uberlegen, ob in dieser Hinsicht Untersuchungen ohne die HiHsmittel der exakten Wissenschaften moglich sind. Es ist nicht wunderbar, dass sich der Erkenntnisdrang des menschlichen Denkens, der in dem Aufbau der Wissenschaften so unverkennbaren Ausdruck findet, auch auf sich selbst richtet."
