A nostalgic tour of Jarrow illustrated by old photographs of the town, selected from the author's quite unique and extensive collection. The images, many of which have never been published before, feature street scenes, notable buildings, social history, industry, events and transport. Jarrow was renowned as a town built on shipbuilding and steel working, courtesy of the Palmer shipbuilding empire, who reigned supreme supplying the world's fleet with more than 1000 vessels until its demise in 1933. It was this abrupt closure of the world famous shipyard which instigated the infamous 'Jarrow Crusade'. The fascination eight picture postcards which were given to Paul Perry in 1966 were the beginning of a journey, a journey which has lasted close to fifty years. The postcards were to form the backbone of the author's extensive collection and have multiplied into many thousands of images, some of which he share's with you within the pages of this publication.

The Classic That Changed Our Perception of the Afterlife In 1975, Dannion Brinkley was struck and killed by lightning. When he awoke twenty-eight minutes later in a morgue, everything was different. He had visited the afterlife, met thirteen angels, and been given 117 revelations about the future. In the years since, one hundred of the revelations have already come true. In "Saved by the Light," now available in trade paperback for the first time, Brinkley shares his incredible story, revealing the truth about the afterlife and providing guidance from beyond about how we should live today.
The Most Compelling Scientific Evidence for Life Beyond Death Ever Compiled Evidence of the Afterlife shares the firsthand accounts of people who have died and lived to tell about it. Through their work at the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, radiation oncologist Jeffrey Long and his wife, Jody, have gathered thousands of accounts of near-death experiences (NDEs) from all over the world. In addition to sharing the personal narrative of their experiences, visitors to the website are asked to fill out a one hundred-item questionnaire designed to isolate specific elements of the experience and to flag counterfeit accounts. The website has become the largest NDE research database in the world, containing over 1,600 NDE accounts. The people whose stories are captured in the database span all age groups, races, and religious affiliations and come from all over the world, yet the similarities in their stories are as awe-inspiring as they are revealing. Using this treasure trove of data, Dr. Long explains how medical evidence fails to explain these reports and why there is only one plausible explanation--that people have survived death and traveled to another dimension.
In September 1975 Dannion Brinkley was talking on the telephone during a thunderstorm when he was struck by lightning and 'died'. He was clinically dead for more than 20 minutes. But between leaving his body and returning to it, he had an extraordinary experience. He visited a spiritual realm and was brought before 13 angelic instructors in what he describes as 'a cathedral of knowledge'. There, he was told of event that would shake the world before the year 2000. Of the 117 revelations that he recalls, 95 have already come to pass. In SAVED BY THE LIGHT Dannion Brinkley now uses the psychic and spiritual gifts he received to help the dying and the desperate. He has chosen to tell his story to inspire others and share his amazing insights into life, death and the future.
Second collection of poems by one of the most hotly-tipped younger Irish poets, described by Fred D'Aguiar as "a prodigiously gifted poet."
The publication of Dublin-born Paul Perry's first collection of poems in 2003 saw him heralded as "a prodigiously gifted poet" by Fred D'Aguiar, for whom each poem "bristles with life and longing, intelligence and wit." The Orchid Keeper (2006) saw that promise confirmed by a book of almost ceaseless motion, energised by the rhythms of thought and navigating between the confessional and the visionary. Taking its title from the defensive arms which, like everything else, vanished with the doomed late 16th century settlement at Roanoke, Perry's new collection explores memory and trace, the stories that survive us and those in which we do not always recognise ourselves. From meditations inspired by historical events to poems which treat of a brother's illness, Perry's imagination ranges freely through these predominately short-lined poems, resulting in work which is as lively on the page as it is likely to remain in the reader's memory.
A generous selection of the work of one of Ireland's most admired younger poets. Paul Perry's world is the compromised, chastened, technology-loving word we live in but he manages to convey that it is not reduced, flattened or less than it was.
From the bestselling author of Life After Life and pioneer re-searcher and leading authority on near-death experiences comes Paranormal, an intimate look at a lifetime spent fearlessly wrestling with humankind's most important and perplexing question: What happens when we die? Paranormal begins with a harrowing account of Dr. Raymond Moody's suicide attempt--due to an undiagnosed illness that led him into depression--and proceeds to explore his lifelong fascination with life beyond our bodies. Moody traces the roots of his obsession with the point of death and how he launched the entirely new medical field of near-death studies. He went on to explore the world of past lives and possible reincarnation before stumbling into the fascinating realm of facilitated visions. After more than four decades, Moody still sees endless promise in the fringes of psychological sciences, where he continues to seek answers to what happens to our souls after death.
Based on extensive clinical experience, Dr. Hellerstein's 7-point program shows how blockages in the arteries can shrink and even disappear, the circulatory system can be made younger, and symptoms of heart disease can be relieved in a few weeks. Features 60 low-fat, low-cholesterol recipes for healthy eating, and easy-to-do exercises.
Is there proof that "near death" and other spiritual experiences can cure afflictions of the body, mind, and spirit? Are there simple ways to tap into a "universal power source" that spiritual masters call enlightenment? Is there scientific evidence of life after death that is being overlooked by skeptics? Is there scientific proof of a spot in our brains that communicates with God and the universe? Pediatrician Melvin Morse believes the answer to all these questions is yes. Shedding new light on the links between science and mysticism, Where God Lives not only reveals the area of the brain that is our biological link to the universe, but also shows us the secret of tapping into the universal energy to achieve healing, personal peace, and transcendence. Filled with moving case histories, Where God Lives applies the rigor of science to the study of the spiritual to prove once and for all the existence of life after death.

With the help of the Discovery Channel, undersea explorer Barry Clifford fields an expedition that includes some of America's top experts in shipwreck recovery. Their goal is to find, identify, and possibly excavate the remains of history's most famous pirate ship: Captain Kidd's Adventure Galley. The search takes them to a tiny island off the coast of Madagascar, Sainte Marie, known to historians as the model for Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Return to Treasure Island and the Search for Captain Kidd weaves together two exciting stories: the saga of Captain William Kidd, one of history's most baffling and mysterious figures, and Barry Clifford's obsessive quest to find perhaps the most notorious pirate ship of all time. The result is a tale of treasure and adventure that ends in death -- both Kidd's and, three hundred years later, that of a rival archaeologist who attempts to stop Clifford's expedition.
