In the first book of the Hole Trilogy, The Hole Opportunity, Colin
was left with his arch enemy Major Woods in hospital, recently out
of intensive care, following an accident involving an exploding
bouncy castle, a lorry load of holes and the dog of the wealthy
land owner, Lady Wills. Colin and Izzy, buoyed by their success in
supplying holes to her Ladyship are keen to grow their 'Hole'
business. A by-pass is planned for Harpsden and the proposed route
cuts through the local golf course. The club captain Major Woods
and members are incensed and use their position to get the route
redesigned cutting through the estate of Lady Wills and across the
Grigg's farm land. Colin identifies an alternative route involving
tunneling under the golf course. Colin sees an opportunity to both
get back in favor with the Major and to sell more holes. Nothing
ever goes smoothly for Colin, especially with the Major seeking
revenge. Will he save the golf course and befriend the Major or
does Lady Wills' estate end up being ravaged and his farm
demolished?
Colin and Izzy Griggs' traditional farming way of life is under
threat from red tape from Brussels and Whitehall. Taking
inspiration from a doughnut, Colin sets up a "Hole Farming
Business." His first job is to supply 18 holes for the newly
refurbished golf course. Colin's ineptness leads to a number of
incidents surrounding the grand opening, creating an arch enemy of
the Club's Captain: Major Woods. His business is given a much
needed boost by the arrival of Lady Wills into the Manor House. She
requires holes for her ornate ponds but before awarding the
contract needs a reference from Colin's previous employer: Major
Woods. How will Colin manage to get the reference he needs to save
his business? How exactly do you manage to farm holes? And who is
really wearing the stockings in the Griggs household? Set in the
rural village of Henslow, The Hole Opportunity is a true English
farce with miscommunication, double entendre, humorous plotlines
and a host of memorable characters.
