Pedro Martin has grown up hearing stories about his abuelito—his
legendary crime-fighting, grandfather who was once a part of the
Mexican Revolution! But that doesn’t mean Pedro is excited at the
news that Abuelito is coming to live with their family. After all,
Pedro has 8 brothers and sisters and the house is crowded enough!
Still, Pedro piles into the Winnebago with his family for a road
trip to Mexico to bring Abuelito home, and what follows is the trip
of a lifetime, one filled with laughs and heartache. Along the way,
Pedro finally connects with his abuelito and learns what it means
to grow up and find his grito.
This astute volume brings together the latest expert research on
adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas (ACPs). ACPs are histologically
benign but clinically aggressive tumors exhibiting a high
propensity for local invasion into the hypothalamus, optic and
vascular structures. These tumors, as well as the current
treatments, may result in pan-hypopituitarism, diabetes insipidus,
morbid obesity followed by type II diabetes mellitus, blindness, as
well as serious behavioral and psychosocial impairments. Exploring
in detail advances in both the understanding of tumor biology as
well as clinical advances in patient management are explored in
detail, this book will also look towards potential new treatment
approaches. Basic Research and Clinical Aspects of Adamantinomatous
Craniopharyngioma is the first book compiling all current research
on ACPs. Mouse and human studies have unequivocally demonstrated
that mutations in CTNNB1 encoding -catenin underlie the etiology of
the majority, if not all ACP tumors. Genetic studies in mice have
shown that ACPs are tumors of the pituitary gland and not of the
hypothalamus as previously thought, and are derived from Rathke's
pouch precursors. In addition, a role for tissue-specific adult
pituitary stem cells has been revealed as causative of ACP.
Together, these studies have provided novel insights into the
molecular and cellular etiology as well as the pathogenesis of
human ACP. Finally, this volume covers new treatment approaches
that have been shown to be effective both in reducing ACP burden as
well as reducing the morbidity associated with therapy.
I'd like to know who in the world hasn't made more than one
mistake a day. The answer is obvious, but that's not really the
problem. It's that we don't know what we should do with the
negative energy-by the way very toxic-that inevitably stays inside
us when we don't properly handle our emotions and decisions about
our mistakes. This powerful manual doesn't assume that we're
saints, or much less, that we're perfect. What it seeks to show us
is how we can free ourselves from the damage and distress
associated with the errors that we commit, always with the aim of
being able to feel better, grow, gain new skills, develop ourselves
more fully, and stay in a process of continual improvement with no
need to live as victims of these errors. As you read this manual,
you will discover, among many other things, the damage done to
human beings by the formidable React Without Thinking (RWT) virus
and you'll also find out what to do to control it. Likewise, you
will understand what guilt really is and how to transform the
negative energy that inevitably accompanies it into positive
energy. Errors are, perhaps, our best allies, but regrettably,
there are very few people who are fortunate enough to see them this
way.
This volume collects contributions written by different experts in
honor of Prof. Jaime Munoz Masque. It covers a wide variety of
research topics, from differential geometry to algebra, but
particularly focuses on the geometric formulation of variational
calculus; geometric mechanics and field theories; symmetries and
conservation laws of differential equations, and pseudo-Riemannian
geometry of homogeneous spaces. It also discusses algebraic
applications to cryptography and number theory. It offers
state-of-the-art contributions in the context of current research
trends. The final result is a challenging panoramic view of
connecting problems that initially appear distant.
This book presents a developmental perspective on the psychopathology of offspring of depressed mothers. A primary theme of this study is the interplay of factors in child (developmental stage, gender, temperament) and environment (depressed mother's symptomatic behavior and family functioning) as a key to psychiatric and psychosocial problems in children. This enlightening study closely follows children and their families through every stage of childhood. This book demonstrates just how influential a depressed mother is to the development of her child.
This book is a comprehensive introduction to social constructionist
ideas and their application within the psychological therapies.
Whether you are a trainee or qualified therapist, this book will
support you to think about therapy as a socially constructed and
relational process, and to develop as a more culturally, socially
and politically aware practitioner. It advocates for 'therapist
activists' who understand the interplay between the micro and the
macro in therapeutic contexts and debunks the idea of the 'isolated
client' to examine how broader societal conditions create problems
for the individual. Chapters are designed to engage, offering a
variety of features to support learning, including: - Introductory
and concluding chapter summaries - Textboxes summarising content
& spotlighting key information - Case studies and vignettes
throughout - Reflective questions & thought-provoking exercises
- Recommended Further Reading. This book has wide applicability,
with author affiliations across both North and South America - the
University of New Hampshire in the US and the Federal University of
Uberlandia in Brazil.
This book brings together the latest information on almond genomics
and transcriptomics, with a particular focus on cutting-edge
findings, tools, and strategies employed in genome sequencing and
analysis with regard to the most important agronomic traits.
Cultivated almond [(Prunus dulcis (Miller) D. A. Webb, syn. Prunus
amygdalus Batsch., Amygdalus communis L., Amygdalus dulcis Mill.)]
is a tree crop producing seeds of great economic interest, and
adapted to hot and dry climates. Domesticated in Southeast Asia,
its small diploid genome and phenotypic diversity make it an ideal
model to complement genomics studies on peach, generally considered
to be the reference Prunus species. Both represent consanguineous
species that evolved in two distinct environments: warmer and more
humid in the case of peach, and colder and xerophytic for almond.
The advent of affordable whole-genome sequencing, in combination
with existing Prunus functional genomics data, has now made it
possible to leverage the novel diversity found in almond, providing
an unmatched resource for the genetic improvement of this species.

a nuestros errores.
This book brings together a collection of selected empirical
studies by researchers and English for Academic Purposes
professionals working with scholars who use English as an
additional language and who face barriers to publication when
communicating the results of their research in the international
context. The contributions have their origins in papers and
workshops presented at the conference «Publishing and Presenting
Research Internationally: Issues for Speakers of English as an
Additional Language (PRISEAL), which took place at the University
of La Laguna (Spain) from 11 to 13 January 2007. The various issues
which are addressed in this volume are grouped into three main
themes: 1. Descriptive studies of linguistic and rhetorical
features of written and spoken academic genres. 2. Contrastive
studies of academic discourse with a focus on rhetorical
preferences of members of scientific communities across cultures,
disciplines and genres. 3. Studies which evaluate English for
Academic Purposes courses and materials in terms of how
successfully they develop the scholar's ability to communicate more
effectively in English.
Integrated water resources management advocates a coordinated
approach for managing water resources in a way that balances social
and economic needs with concern for the environment. While
potentially useful, integrated water management is also
controversial. Supporters believe that the multi-dimensional nature
of water can only be understood and managed from a holistic
perspective, while critics often argue that integrated water
management lacks suffi ciently well-defi ned rules for its
practical implementation. This book, written by academics, users
and practitioners, provides a down-to-earth approach to the ideal
of integrated water resources management, drawing from conceptual
frameworks and real-life practice to identify the key aspects that
are yet to be resolved. As such, it examines the role of water
accounting, food trade, environmental externalities and intangible
values as key aspects whose consideration may help the water
management community move forward. Overall, integrated water
resources management is perceived to be a useful utopia, whose
value lies more in the steps that need to be taken to make it a
reality than in achieving its ever-elusive end goal.
junto a Bernhard von Breidenbach, Pero Tafur, Hieronymus Munzer,
Leo von Rozmital, Jean de Bethencourt, Fernando de Magallanes o
Cristobal Colon entre otros.

The study presented in this book imposes a developmental
perspective on the psychopathology of offspring of depressed
mothers. A primary theme is the interplay of factors in child
(developmental stage, gender, temperament) and environment
(depressed mother's symptomatic behaviour and family functioning)
as contributors to psychiatric and psychosocial problems in
offspring. Children and their families are followed from
toddler-hood to the threshold of adulthood. The emergence and
evolution of problems differ by mother's diagnosis - unipolar and
bipolar depressed as well. Configurations of variables in the
individual child are identified which, in combination, create
diverse processes that put offspring at risk for specific problems.
Early depressed mother-child relationships are strongly
influential. Specific affective and temperament qualities of mother
and child act reciprocally, increasing. The longitudinal data grasp
the nature of connectedness of early experience to ongoing
development, and identify patterns of child-to-adult connections.
Findings suggest new questions and revised research paradigms.

Stuart J. Murphy travels all over the UnitedStates talking to
thousands of kids. And you'll never believe what they talk about:
MATH Stuart shows kids that they use math every day -- to share a
pizza, spend their allowance, even sort socks. Stuart writes funny
stories about math -- and if you read his books, you'll start to
see the fun in math, too.Hamster Champs
With a few blocks, a board, and a protractor to measure the
angles, the hamster champs have built a ramp that lets them fly
high But will this stunt be good enough to outwit Hector the
cat?
Growing up in a tiny shack in the Dominican Republic, Felipe Alou
never dreamed he would be the first man born and raised in his
country to play and manage in Major League Baseball-and also the
first to play in the World Series. In this extraordinary
autobiography, Alou tells of his real dream to become a doctor, and
an improbable turn of events that led to the pro contract. Battling
racism in the United States and political turmoil in his home
country, Alou persevered, paving the way for his brothers and
scores of other Dominicans, including his son Moises. Alou played
seventeen years in the Major Leagues, accumulating more than two
thousand hits and two hundred home runs, and then managed for
another fourteen years-four with the San Francisco Giants and ten
with the Montreal Expos, where he became the winningest manager in
franchise history. Alou's pioneering journey is embedded in the
history of baseball, the Dominican Republic, and a remarkable
family.
