Two women and two sides to the story. Whose do you trust?

Laila and her husband arrive for a week's holiday in Greece in desperate need of a reset. As Laila sits by the pool she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the other family staying in their resort.

Em has no idea who Laila is, or that she has been watching her and her teenage sons and husband so intently. Five days later their worlds will be blown apart by a horrifying event.

Laila thinks she knows the truth of what happened. But in telling Em what she's seen, she stands to lose everything she holds dear.

And what if she's got it wrong?

Media Marathoning - Immersions in Morality (Hardcover): Lisa Glebatis Perks Media Marathoning - Immersions in Morality (Hardcover)
Lisa Glebatis Perks
R2,718 Discovery Miles 27 180 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Media Marathoning: Immersions in Morality is a scholarly study of the intense relationship between reader and story world, analyzing the way audiences become absorbed in a fictive text and dedicate many hours to exploring its narrative contours. Rather than view these media experiences as mindless indulgences, "media marathoning" connotes a conjoined triumph of commitment and stamina. Compared to more traditional, slower-paced media engagement patterns, media marathoning affords readers greater depth of story world engagement, maximizing the emotional and cognitive rewards of the media experience. Through immersive marathoning experiences, audiences can seriously engage with mediated questions about human nature and society, refining our orientation toward morality through internal dialogue about the story and communication with other readers as we process the meaningful journey. As digital technologies facilitate easier, user-centered access to media texts, narratives increase in complexity, and more readers seek immersive story world experiences, marathoning looks to be the new normal of media engagement. Drawing from qualitative studies of book, film, and television marathoners, along with textual analysis of commonly marathoned stories, Media Marathoning presents a holistic look at marathoning's cultural impact.

The Complex Lives of British Freshwater Fishes (Hardcover): Mark Everard The Complex Lives of British Freshwater Fishes (Hardcover)
Mark Everard; Illustrated by Jack Perks
R1,158 Discovery Miles 11 580 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

CHOICE 'Highly Recommended for all readers' June 2021 Vol. 58 No. 10 This stunningly illustrated book goes far beyond a run-of-the-mill nature guide. It explores the fascinating life histories of Britain's freshwater fishes, a group of animals which, despite their importance and ubiquity in our diverse still and flowing fresh waters, has before now been rarely regarded and respected as 'wildlife'. Our native fishes tend generally to be considered as simply something for anglers to catch or for people to eat, yet they work enormously hard for us. Author Mark Everard, avid nature-watcher, angler and scientist, shows how freshwater fish provide food, ornamentation, sport and cultural identity, and highlights their huge importance for conservation as part of the living ecosystems upon which we all depend. He dives into the mysteries moving below the surface of our rivers and lakes, bringing the wonderful and fascinating world of the diversity of British freshwater fish species into plain sight and into mind. This unique book features over 100 full-colour photographs by pioneering photographer and filmmaker Jack Perks, whose work has featured on BBC Springwatch, The One Show and Countryfile. The book is filled with technical detail useful to conservationists and biology students. Most importantly, it is also presented in an accessible, visually attractive and engaging manner that will appeal to anybody with an interest in the natural world: the conservation-minded public, the angling community, and our nation of wildlife enthusiasts. Whatever your background, this book will open your eyes to our freshwater fishy wealth, and the many ways in which it enriches our lives.

Solving the Dynamic Complexity Dilemma - Predictive and Prescriptive Business Management: Answering the Need for a New Paradigm... Solving the Dynamic Complexity Dilemma - Predictive and Prescriptive Business Management: Answering the Need for a New Paradigm (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2014)
Nabil Abu el Ata, Maurice J. Perks
R3,091 Discovery Miles 30 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Dynamic complexity results from hidden, un known factors-or more precisely, interactions between factors-that can unexpectedly im pact the perfor mance of systems. When the influences of dynamic complexity are not meas ured and understood, new never-seen-before behaviors can come as unwelcomed surprises, which disrupt the performance of systems. Left alone, processes that were once prized for their effi ciency unexpectedly begin to degrade-costs increase, while volumes and quality decline. Evidence of problems may come too late for effective resolution as technology advance ments induce rapid change and compress the time available to react to that change. The results of dynamic complexity are always negative and unmanaged dynamic complexity can bring business or global systems to the point of sudden chaos. The 2009 H1N1 pandemic, 2008 Credit Crunch and 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster are global examples of the dangers of undiagnosed dynamic complexity. With increasing frequency executive leaders today are discovering that their business and IT system performance levels are not meeting expectations. In most cases these performance deficiencies are caused by dynamic complexity, which lies hidden like a cancer until the symptoms reveal themselves-often when it is too late to avoid negative impacts on business outcomes. This book examines the growing business problem of dynamic complexity and presents a path to a practical solution. To achieve better predictability, organizations must be able to expose new, dangerous patterns of behavior in time to take corrective actions and know which actions will yield the optimal results. The book authors promote new methods of risk management that use data collection, analytics, machine learning and automation processes to help organizations more accurately predict the future and take strategic actions to improve performance outcomes. The presented means of achieving this goal are based upon the authors' practical experiences, backed by scientific principles, and results achieved through consulting engagements with over 350 global organizations.

In the following three sections different models for exercise testing and training, nutritional counselling and smoking cessation will be presented. The behavioral section contains health-related quality of life and psychological issues, patient education, compliance and adherence to the treatment program. In the social section the return to work, the role of relatives, heart foundations etc. will be discussed.

Groups with special needs will be highlighted in the seventh section, which will address children with cardiac disease, elderly, women, heart failure and cardiac transplantation patients, patients with ICD or after valve surgery. The final section comprises evaluation options. quality assurance and organisational matters i.e. program design, staff training, safety, documentation and a health-economic cost review; even national program differences will be debated.

Each section will contain a short summary and tables with practical guidance statements. Furthermore, all sections will be formatted as to follow the natural course of cardiovascular disease, starting off with focus on primary preventivecare and finishing with the demands on rehabilitation of the patient with advanced disease, thus following the "seamless care" concept.
