In the Global South, on the other hand, food production is still often the most important factor for socio-economic development. However, rural areas both in the industrialized north and in the global south are facing new challenges which lead to significant changes and threats to their development. New forms of food production, but also new functional (e.g. housing or business parks) and often multifunctional approaches are being discussed and practiced yet it remains unclear the extent to which these result in better or more sustainable development of rural areas.

Reiner spie in hohem Bogen gegen Meister Wossnicks Schaufenster, vor dessen Friseursalon sich dieses kleine Drama abgespielt hatte. Langsam lief die Spucke, einer Trane gleich, die blank geputzte Scheibe hinunter und kleckste von dort trage auf das Strassenpflaster. Heftig wurde in diesem Moment die Ladentur aufgerissen, wobei das sonst so melodisch lautende Glocklein hasslich schepperte, als die Tur gegen die Hauswand knallte. Wie ein wutender Irrwisch sprang Meister Wossnick auf die Strasse. Eine Brennschere in der Rechten und die Perucke der Gattin des Bankdirektors Quilitz in der linken Hand haltend. Mit einem dumpfen, grollenden Knurrlaut, der von tief unten seiner Kehle entsieg, und mit entmenschtem Gesichtsausdruck nahm der sonst eher besonnen wirkende Haarkunstler die Verfolgung auf. Wahrenddessen sank im Innern des Coiffeursalons die bereits erwahnte Dame Quilitz, mit hysterisch uberschnappender Stimme nach ihrem Haar kreischend, glatzkopfig auf die mit rotem Samt bezogene Chaiselongue und in eine gnadige Ohnmacht. Dieses pikante Detail stammte im Ubrigen von Heiner, der dort anwesend, bis zu jenem Augenblick gelangweilt die Zeit totschlug, da er auf seine wochentliche Fassonschur wartete. Zum Beweis fur die Richtigkeit seiner Angaben zeigte Heiner, nachdem er verlegen seine Pudelmutze abgezogen hatte, auf die etwa hundert Haupthaare, die ihm Meister Wossnick aus Mitleid auf seinem Kopf belassen hatte. In jenen Jahren trug Heiner selbst im Sommer oft eine Pudelmutze. Eine Tatsache, die er heute gern verschweigt, die aber der Vollstandigkeit halber erwahnt werden soll. Ubrigens hatte ich es nur meiner damaligen Wendigkeit zu verdanken, dass Skalpjager Wossnick ohne neue Trophae in sein Heimatdorf zuruckkehren musst
