This title contains a CD & Booklet. The seven classical
planetary bodies can be used to represent the spectrum of
psychology. Ouranos (Uranus), the eighth body, orbits outside the
sphere of the classical planets - and of the god-forms or
thought-forms attributed to them. Thus it forms an ideal symbol for
that which encompasses all of the gods within its orbit, namely,
the magical personality. It represents not the power of the magic
itself, (which is attributed to Pluto), but rather the desire to be
a magician, and the personality required to live as one. Ouranos
can also be thought of as the dark side of the Sun. Ouranos
represents something more dark - and perhaps devious - creeping
around in the darkness outside of the normal.
Apophenion attacks most of the great questions of being, free will,
consciousness, meaning, the nature of mind, and humanity's place in
the cosmos, from a magical perspective. Some of the conclusions
seem to challenge many of the deeply held assumptions that our
culture has taught us, so brace yourself for the paradigm crash and
look for the jewels revealed in the wreckage. This book contains
something to offend everyone; enough science to upset the
magicians, enough magic to upset the scientists, and enough
blasphemy to upset most trancendentalists.
This title contains 2 CDs. This is an incredible two CD set. Pete's
introductory lecture on Chaos Magick is itself worth the price of
admission, but then he goes on to provide an uncommonly powerful
'guided meditation,' the Cthonos Rite. The first CD contains a
lengthy discussion of Chaos Magick followed by an Introduction to
the Cthonos Rite: The Philosophy & Practice of Magick;
Introduction to the Cthonos Rite; Using the Cthonos Rite CD. The
second CD contains the guided Cthonos Rite itself: Beginning the
Cthonos Rite; The 1st Chamber - Evocation; The 2nd Chamber -
Divination; The 3rd Chamber - Enchantment; The 4th Chamber -
Invocation; The 5th Chamber - The Pit; The 6th Chamber -
Illumination; and, conclusion.
"In this engrossing cultural history, Peter Carroll has taken on
quite a few sacred cows from venerable historians who imagined an
eternal Suzhou to the founder of Chinese architectural history.
Other scholars have critiqued nationalistic history and Eurocentric
definitions of modernity, but Carroll has gone one step further;
taking as his analytic focus space in its discursive, symbolic, and
material formations, he has redefined the grounds of writing modern
Chinese history. Theoretically informed, meticulously researched
and smartly written, this book will be read for both what he said
and how he said it."--Dorothy Ko, Barnard College
"This marvelously rich book describes the ways in which ideas of
"tradition" and "modernity" are mapped onto symbolic spaces, such
as historical sites (whose presence and preservation are
re-imagined as essential to a modern republic) and new roads
(intended for industry, but instead co-opted by decadent leisure
practices). As the author shows us, in early twentieth-century
Suzhou, "tradition" became an object of consumption, while the much
sought after "modernity" proved chimerical and multifarious. The
author is to be commended for his attention to contradiction,
paradox, and irony, as well as his deft use of primary
sources."--Tobie Meyer-Fong, Johns Hopkins University and author of
Building Culture in Early Qing Yangzhou (Stanford University Press,
2003)
Enter the world of the occultist: where the spirits of the dead
dwell amongst us, where the politics of ecstasy are played out, and
where magick spills into every aspect of life. It's all right here;
sex, drugs, witchcraft and gardening. From academic papers, through
to first person accounts of high-octaine rituals. In Magick Works
you will find cutting edge essays from the path of Pleasure,
Freedom and Power. In this seminal collection Julian Vayne
explores: * The Tantric use of Ketamine. * Social Justice, Green
Politics and Druidry. * English Witchcraft and Macumba * The
Magickal use of Space. * Cognitive Liberty and the Occult. *
Psychogeography & Chaos Magick. * Tai Chi and Apocalyptic
Paranoia. * Self-identity, Extropianism and the Abyss. * Parenthood
as Spiritual Practice. * Aleister Crowley as Shaman ...and much
more!
This is a witty and iconoclastic commentary on magick and modern
occult subculture by one of the founders of Chaos Magick. This book
contains astonishing, controversial and revolutionary ideas on the
theory and practice of magick, the structure of the universe and
the nature of the mind. It holds many surprises as it challenges
many of the conventional assumptions and paradigms of magick.
Filled with practical techniques, the book will give you the means
to undo the fallacy of 'being' and reach 'sideways' into imaginary
time to accomplish magic(k). Done in the style of Aleister
Crowley's "Book of Lies", and humorously illustrated, this book is
a must for all Chaoist and Western magicians.
A sorceror-scientist's grimoire (Roundworld edition) Every universe
potentially has its own Supreme Grimoire containing the spells
which define its reality and the magic which you can perform within
that reality. In this Octavo we have assembled scattered secrets
for a Supreme Grimoire forRoundworld, the universe in which you're
standing. To this end we have taken some inspiration from
Pratchett's Discworld, and a lot from Theoretical Physics and
Practical Chaos Magic. "The most original, and probably the most
important, writer on Magick since Aleister Crowley." -Robert Anton
Wilson, author of the Cosmic Trigger trilogy. Peter J. Carroll is
one of the founders of the Magical Pact of the Illuminates of
Thanateros (IOT) which he led for a decade. He has spent
thirty-seven years in research and experiment and is the author of
three other books Liber Null & Psychonaut, Liber Kaos: the
Psychonomicon, and Psybermagic, and The Apophenion.
