Measures of Active Labor Market Policy - such as training, wage subsidies, public employment measures, and job search assistance - are widely used in European countries to combat unemployment. Little, however, is known about what each country can learn from experiences in other countries. This study provides novel insight on this important policy issue by discussing the role of the European Commission's Employment Strategy, reviewing the experiences made in European states, and giving the first ever quantitative assessment of the existing cross-country evidence, answering the question "what labor market program works for what target group under what (economic and institutional) circumstances?." Using an innovative meta-analytical approach, the authors find that rather than contextual factors such as labor market institutions or the business cycle, it is almost exclusively the program type that matters for program effectiveness: While direct employment programs in the public sector appear detrimental, wage subsidies and "Services and Sanctions" can be effective in increasing participants' employment probability.

In 2004 the Rockwool Foundation decided to launch a research project that would focus upon the relationship of young immigrants to the Danish educational sys-tem, including an investigation of the attitudes of these young people towards education and of the benefits that they obtained from attending primary and lower secondary school (i.e. the obligatory stages of schooling) in Denmark. It has been evident for a number of years that non-Western immigrants do not make much use of the Danish educational system, and that far too many of those who do go to Danish educational institutions fail to complete their courses. If this educa-tional pattern of non-achievement is not broken, then it will greatly hinder the true integration of immigrants from non-Western backgrounds into the Danish labour market, and consequently into Danish society. In order to determine the learning outcomes for young immigrants from their attendance at Danish primary and lower secondary school, the Rockwool Foun-dation Research Unit contacted the Danish PISA Consortium to arrange a spe-cial PISA survey. The results of this survey were presented in a book published in 2007 by the University Press of Southern Denmark entitled PISA Etnisk 2005 (PISA Ethnic 2005), edited by Niels Egelund and myself. This special PISA sur-vey made possible in-depth analyses of school-pupils' performance, including the performance of pupils from non-Western backgrounds.

In modern times, the Christian faith's claim to possess a unique revelation of God has faced numerous challenges. A central issue has been the role of the Bible. While some have continued to defend the view that the Bible, inspired by God, is his self-revelation in a direct way, others have argued that God's revelation is to be found primarily in his actions, or in the person of Jesus Christ, rather than in the Scriptures as such. In a fresh approach, Peter Jensen argues that it is better to follow the biblical categories of the knowledge of God and the gospel, rather than to start from 'revelation' as an abstract concept.
